August 15, 1945
World War II gasoline rationing ends in America with the announcement of Japan's surrender!
Three years earlier, in an effort to conserve petroleum for the war efforts, gasoline was rationed and most Americans were limited to four gallons a week! The Office of Price Administration controlled the rationing by issuing stickers and coupon books. To further limit the consumption of fuel, the speed limit was also capped at 35 miles per hour!
