PMAA Energy Policy Response & RecommendationsState of Union

In response to President Obama's message on energy policies during last week's State of the Union, the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) wrote a letter outlining their energy policy  recommendations.  The letter was sent to the House and Senate Leaderships, and all members of Congress were copied.

How Will You SCORE With Super Bowl Fans?

According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive, a market research firm, the Super Bowl is the third ranked occasion behind Christmas and Thanksgiving, where most calories are consumed!  Approximately 5% of Super Bowl snacks will be purchased from convenience stores. The survey concluded the top picks for the 2011 game were dips and spreads, which were up about 30% from 2010. Chicken wings and pizza followed at 17% and 22% respectively.  Salty favorites like chips, pretzels, popcorn and peanuts actually fell from 2010's first place spot to fourth, landing at 14%.

Of course, snacking traditions vary by market. The survey determined for the LA/Orange and San Diego markets, pizza was the favorite.

LA/Orange: Pizza ranked high in this market, beating out the chips and dips. Game fans in this demographic are also more likely to use catering or restaurant services to provide food for their Super Bowl parties.

San Diego:  Pizza also ranks among the top, along with chicken wings.  Chips and dips are also favorites, followed by the salty food assortments.  About 15% of San Diegan's will serve seafood at their parties, including shrimp, sushi and calamari.
