Welcome Back!
Can you believe it? School is back in session, fall is officially here, and it's time to start thinking about Tapestry 2012. I'm very excited to welcome you back to the Tapestry newsletter, where throughout the year, I'll share valuable tidbits about Tapestry: A Day for You. I'll try to keep it informative, fun and to the point. I know you are busy! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kathleen Jackson and I'm the new Tapestry project manager. Some of you may remember me as the woman on crutches at Tapestry 2011. I had the pleasure of working as assistant project manager with Ruth Stone and I really enjoyed getting to know many of you. Ruth is now a project manager focused on IPFW's 50th anniversary celebrations. I'm sure she will do a fabulous job. I'm thrilled to take on my new responsibilities as project manager and look forward to working with a wonderful group of people. Also, I'm happy to announce that Connie Heflin is the new assistant project manager. Together, we'll continue Tapestry's tradition of providing a day for women to meet with friends, rejuvenate, and educate themselves----all while raising funds for scholarships. I'm proud to be involved with such an inspirational event and truly appreciate your support. Along the way, please feel free to share with me your thoughts and ideas. I'd love to hear from you about how we can make Tapestry 2012 an extraordinary day. Warmly, Kathleen Jackson Tapestry Project Manger tapestry@ipfw.edu 260-481-6854 |
2011 -- A Reason to Celebrate
Tapestry: A Day for You celebrated its 10th annual event on Friday, April 29, 2011, with inspirational women, an iconic star, and an unprecedented amount of scholarship funds being raised. The day started with two extraordinary women being recognized as female role models in our community: Dorian Maples and the late Bette Harris. Next, the nearly 1,200 Tapestry guests strolled through 138 artisan boutique and sponsor booths. Then, guests dispersed to the 13 educational breakout sessions. The luncheon program was highlighted by the inspirational stories of six IPFW College of Health and Human Services students, who were awarded a record-breaking total of $38,500 in scholarship funds. And, finally, Molly Ringwald entertained the audience with her thoughts on Pretty is a State of Mind: Empowering Women to be Their Best True Selves.
The result was $78,000 raised for women's scholarships, the highest in Tapestry's ten-year history. Half of those funds will go into the Tapestry Parkview Endowment and the other half will be available to award as scholarships at the next Tapestry:A Day for You. Since the scholarships were introduced in 2002, more than $450,000 has been raised and 30 IPFW students have been awarded scholarships.
