Tanner's High Fives
Whenever our young friend Tanner thought people did something really awesome, he'd give them a high five. So, in his memory, we'd like to give Tanner's High Fives to some truly amazing people:
* Mark Adam Mittler, M.D., F.A.C.S, F.A.A.P., NSLIJ Health System Neurological Surgeon is the recipient of The Tanner High Five Award for his steadfast commitment to caring for children with pediatric and spinal cord tumors. Please come to our Second Annual Wish Upon a Star Gala in April when we honor him! * Ralph and Angela Barba, for making a donation in lieu of favors in honor of their daughter Giuliana Rosalia's Christening.
* Kay Cestaro, for donating her credit card points to us so we could use them to purchase gifts for baskets that help our families.
* Clara Ferrara, for donating her credit card points to help us purchase even more gift baskets for kids and their families. Thanks for being so awesome!

Dear Friends,
It's February, and you know what that means: Valentine's Day is here. This is the time that everyone gets caught up in thoughts of true love. So we thought we'd take this opportunity to talk about why we love helping children with cancer and their families.
This year, we're looking forward to more fundraising events that help us in our mission to show the love to the kids and families that we help. On April 20th, we'll be having our Second Annual Wish Upon a Star Gala. There will be top shelf liquor, great food exciting entertainment, lots of raffles & the always popular 50/50. But what we really hope to see at this year's event is you!
Some of the other events that we're planning include another 5K Walk/Run fundraiser, a carnival, and a golf outing. Check out the sidebar for more details, and keep checking back at our website for the latest event updates.
We are blessed to work with some pretty awesome people. Read some of the families who have found very creative ways to help us in Tanner's High Fives. For some ways to show true love this Valentine's Day-and help families dealing with pediatric cancer-check out Lexie's Corner.
Have a very happy, healthy, love-filled Valentine's Day!
All the best,
Your friends at The Lexiebean Foundation |
Lexie's Corner
Inspiration and Motivation for those touched by cancer The great thing about Valentine's Day is that you don't have to spend a whole lot of money to make someone smile. So, in that spirit, here are a few ideas to help you make this Valentine's Day extra special to some people who deserve all the love we can share. ♥ "Hug" a Pediatric Oncology Nurse today! These unsung heroes of the cancer ward work so hard for us. Telling them thank you will make their day! If you're so inclined, a gift of Chocolate Covered Strawberries would also be appreciated by all of the nurses on the floor. Find recipes online and leave a tasty "thank you" today. ♥ "Card" your pediatric cancer patient. Get all of the kids you know in on this one: let's see how many Valentine's Day cards we can make for our friend who is in the hospital. It's a great way to remind them that they are loved and remembered.
♥ "Cook up" something special for parents who don't get the chance to spend a lot of quiet time together. Dinner could be as simple as baked ziti or as extravagant as Surf & Turf. Drop it off with a bottle of wine and a card telling them to enjoy some quiet time together.
♥ "Drive by" the hospital with a balloon bouquet, Mad Libs, ITunes gift cards, a dry erase board and some markers, or some other little gift for your hospital bound Valentine. ♥ "Meet the Siblings." Host a movie night with an age appropriate flick: Beauty & The Beast for the under 8 crowd, the Twilight Saga for tweens and teens, or choose an action movie or comedy for your boy/girl crowd. A simple spaghetti dinner beforehand, followed by popcorn and drinks during the movie is all you need to give them a Valentine's Day that's fun, lighthearted and a much-needed break from their everyday worries.

In Memoriam
When we started The Lexiebean Foundation, we knew firsthand that some of our kids would lose their fight to cancer. We want to remember one of those children that recently passed away, and ask everyone to remember him and his family in your thoughts and prayers:
