Yesterday, we looked at how morality has been out of control since 1962 when prayer was taken out of public schools. Since this date, our nation has idly stood by as Christian principles, virtues, and teachings have been replaced by feel-good political correctness and liberal ideologies. The result is a lost nation who can't seem to find their way.
The Founding Fathers had a few thoughts about the subject of morality and its importance, so let's see what they had to say:
Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who also attended the Continental Congress prophetically stated, "By removing the Bible from schools we would be wasting so much time and money in punishing criminals . . . Take the Bible out of our schools and there would be an explosion in crime."May I remind you that since prayer was taken out of schools, violent crime has increased 560% in America!
Charles Carroll, signer of the Declaration of Independence said, "Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion . . . are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."
Benjamin Franklin, signer of both the Constitution and Declaration of Independence stated, "[O]nly a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Noah Webster, the Founding Father of Education proclaimed, "The most perfect maxims and examples for regulating your social conduct and domestic economy, as well as the best rules of morality and religion, are to be found in the Bible."
Webster also stated, "The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all of our civil constitutions and laws . . . All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."
John Adams, signer of the Constitution said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."
John Adams wrote on June 21, 1776, "Statesmen . . . may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand."
Our existence as a thriving nation depends upon our morality and our morality depends on our relationship with God. This, my fellow patriot, is the reason we are advocating for revival and transformation in our nation! This is the reason we are asking everyone to pray! If we do not have God brought back into our culture, then we will become more morally sick and our nation will be doomed. We cannot let this happen!
I will close today with the words of John Adams. Please read it slowly and let it permeate into your heart and mind. He said, "The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure . . . they may change their Rulers and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty."
