Time for the Hullabaloo to Stop!
"If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discernment, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in Christianity, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it."
These are the words of Rev. Charles Finney, a Presbyterian minister in the Second Great Awakening who also served as the President of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. He is often called the Father of Modern Revivalism. The most important thing that can be said about Finney is God used the man to usher in revival in the United States when it was so desperately needed!
Oh how we need pulpits that will be ablaze for God. Ones which will speak truth from God's Word as opposed to some feel good psychosis hullabaloo which does nothing but leave people empty or deceived! Pulpits are the steering wheels of our communities. They are designed to move people toward God . . . entire communities toward God. In many places the pulpit has become nothing more than a rudder which is moved by the latest church growth technique or program instead of by the absolutely faithful power of God!
Oh pastors, please don't search the Internet for your next sermon! Please don't walk into the pulpit this Sunday having not seriously sought the Lord and His power! Please don't cheat your people and your God with someone else's program and words! No . . . Please no! God has called you to preach! God has called you to lead! Beg for God to get rid of all resemblance of ego in your life! We . . . the people of the United States . . . we the people need God and it is up to you to teach us!
Tomorrow we will talk about the responsibility of all Christians. I am warning you right now not to open your email tomorrow expecting some candy-coated nothing which is not going to help us do anything but stay in our same mess! In the meantime, PRAY to our Great God who is longing to hear from you! |

We acknowledge our transgression individually and as a nation and ask for a Godly sorrow that leads to repentance and deliverance. Father, you are our only hope. Turn us again and cause your face to shine upon us. Rise up righteous leaders who will lead us in your path. Turn the hearts of those who lead us toward you and your wisdom and will. It is time for you to act Oh God for your glory and the honor of your Son. Amen"
