The Story of Molly Pitcher
"Mary Haynes McCauley, A.K.A. "Molly Pitcher" was one tough woman! Born Irish, she married William Haynes, a private in the American Revolutionary War. When William was sent to the Battle of Monmouth, Mary decided to accompany her husband into war. He and his fellow soldiers manned the cannons on this blistery day that reached a temperature of 100 degrees. The war was bloody; bullets were flying; the cannons were overheating; and the fighting men's mouths were parched and full of dust. But, Mary had a plan!
Compelled to help, Mary began to carry pitcher after endless pitcher of fresh water to relieve the soldiers' thirst. The wounded began to call out "Molly Pitcher" as a way to let her know they needed water. And thus, her nickname was born.
Mary not only carried water, but she also nursed the wounded soldiers and even carried at least one wounded soldier off the battlefield. At one point during the battle, after returning with more water, she found her husband wounded and unable to fight. Instead of retreating, she grabbed his rammer and began to load and shoot his cannon herself! At the close of the war, George Washington paid tribute to "Molly Pitcher" and she was provided a pension of $40 per year for the remainder of her life. Mary was committed to her husband; committed to her country; and committed to those who were fighting for our nation. She wasn't simply complaining about the "enemy" but instead she joined in the effort to defeat the "enemy" by doing all that she could to help! Today, we again need modern day patriots such as Mary who will do all things necessary to win this battle that we are currently in! Though we do not have a battle of flesh and blood, we must recognize that we do have a battle against satan (intentionally not capitalized), darkness, and all things contrary to Christ. If we are to remain free, we must transform our culture! If we are ever to reverse our current and downward slope of depravity, sin, and all things bad in our land, then we as God's people must help others find Jesus Christ . . . And we will do this by living out Jesus Christ!

Today's Prayer
"Lord, we are in a battle between good and evil, between Heaven and hell, between God and Satan, and in that battle we as Christians each have a position on the battlefield. Lord, forgive us for our fears, our inadequacies, our lack of courage, and our lack of strength that keep us from fighting in the battle and using the gifts You gave us to serve You and others. Help us Lord to be strong in You and help us not to give up or give in to evil. I ask Lord, that we would seek You and ground ourselves in Your Word and Your ways. Please fill us with Your Spirit and let us operate daily in Your power and strength, being obedient to use the gifts and abilities You gave us to take up our positions on the battlefield. Help us not to simply watch while others fight, but help us instead to serve the water or fire the cannon or do whatever it is that we are able to do. In Jesus' name, amen."
