Part 4 of 5 Patriots & Heroes: The American Journey toward Freedom
This week we will take a close look at some of America's greatest heroes. While these founding fathers may not be well-known in modern times, their role in the journey toward freedom was paramount toward gaining independence. Their personal stories of tenacity, strength, and faith will inspire your patriotism and draw you toward prayer. |

It's Your Responsibilty!
"The British are coming, the British are coming" proclaimed Paul Revere as he rode horseback warning colonist that the King's army was drawing near. Up until this point, a bullet had not been fired between the mother-land and the new colonists; however, this night would be different - that is if the colonist would be willing to fight for their own personal rights and freedoms. Part of the British army's orders was to find and arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock who were viewed as "rebels." Knowing this information, Revere hurriedly went to Rev. Jonas Clark's home in Lexington, Massachusetts where Adams and Hancock were staying the night. Upon hearing the news, the two men asked the pastor if the people of the town were willing to fight to which Clark replied that he had "trained them for this very hour; they would fight, and, if need be, die, too, under the shadow of the house of God." The next day on April 19, 1775, "the shot heard round the world" rang out as 150 colonists defended themselves against an army of 700 highly trained and armed British soldiers. Who were the colonists? They were the initial group named the "Minutemen" and they were all members of Clark's church! At the end of the short battle, 18 Colonists, both white and black in skin color, laid dead upon the ground. "From this day," Clark stated while seeing his parishioner's lifeless bodies, "will be dated the liberty of the world." It was here that the road toward freedom as a "unalienable right" endowed "by their Creator" began - not simply for a newly discovered land that became America, but for an entire world. Today, we have both an obligation and a responsibility to teach our children, grandchildren, and others how God Almighty formed and blessed this country we call the United States of America. We have a duty to recall God's hand on our land and how the determinations of heroes throughout our nation's history have continued to provide us with "unalienable rights" as given by "our Creator." This weekend will you make a point to have prayer with your family for this nation and share thoughts on how God formed this land? Will you step out of the busyness of life and fulfill the responsibility within your family to discuss the historical truths of our great nation? Don't wait and rely upon others to do it for you! To remember what God has done and to pray for your country is YOUR responsibility! Thank you for doing it.

Today's Scripture
"Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison."
Deuteronomy 29:18 |

Today's Prayer
"Our Father: Our nation is in trouble. Our nation has turned from You. Our nation mocks You! Our colleges and universities teach principals that are contrary to your Word. America is on the road to total ineffectiveness due to ignorance and apathy! Egocentrism has fooled us into thinking we are wise and indestructible, that we do not need You! Please forgive us and turn our hearts away from our selfish and independent ways. Shake us from the pride that will lead us to destruction! You alone can restore us! We beg You to forgive us and CHANGE our hearts!"
