Spotlight on Garrison!
This month's spotlight is on Garrison Green. Garrison is a Florida native, born and raised in Winter Park. He graduated from the University of Central Florida as a Civil Engineer in 2006 and has been working with R.C. Stevens since then, five years in October! Garrison has worked in construction in one form or another since 2002. Along with half of RCS, he is currently working with the team in Auburndale on the Coca-Cola projects along with several other projects.
Garrison has a 2-year old son, Asher, who he raises with Emily. Garrison, Emily and Asher live in Winter Park, along with Emily's dog, Jackson. Garrison's leisure time is filled with soccer, surf, stand-up paddle board and in general being on the water or outdoors.
A little known fact about Garrison is that he has lived without cable TV for several years ("one of the best decisions of my life"). He also has a turntable and a vinyl collection (that's record albums to the older folks out there reading this). He also grows his own vegetables in an organic community garden in his neighborhood.
One of Garrison's pet peeves is the word "problem". Says Garrison, "When people come up to me and say 'we have a problem' before I even hear what it is, I'll correct them and say 'challenge' and it completely changes the situation".
Garrison's work philosophy is: "Fake it 'til you make it!" He explains... "As one of the younger project managers with R.C. Stevens, I can't tell you how many times I have done something for the first time and started out not having a clue as to what to do. When this happens, I utilize the resources that are available, the knowledge of others around me, develop an approach and execute. It's been my experience that everyone else is "faking it" just as much if not more than I am"! Wise words indeed.

| American Cancer Society
Winter Garden Relay for Life had it's kick-off event at the City's Tanner Auditorium on October 25th. They are off to a fine start with twelve teams already registered and over $8500 in sponsorships committed. Did you know that 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer? That is a pretty astounding number, isn't it?! We, here at RCS, have been touched by this disease and it has left a mark on all of us, but we are fighting back!
Dave Smith has been chosen as Brevard County's Amercian Cancer Society Chairman for this year and Betsy VanderLey is serving as the Sponsorship Chair for Winter Garden's Relay for Life to be held on April 20, 2012.
Allison Rudner is forming a team to participate in that event and you can help! You can either be part of her team at the event or you can make a donation to Allison or one of her team of walkers. Most importantly though, please don't sit on the sidelines and let someone else do all of the work. You can play a part and make a difference. Please contact Allison at arudner@rcstevens.com and let her know how you will help. |

News from the Field
Sometimes you get so busy on your own job or project that you don't even know what is going on with the rest of the company. Check back here periodically to hear about what else is going on.
News from Auburndale
As part of our project for Coca-Cola in Auburndale, our team changed out the electrical service of the plant. They installed a new transformer with new feeds to several electrical panels. The plant operated on a generator while they made the switch. This effort required tight coordination between R.C. Stevens, the Coca-Cola plant, our sub-contractors and TECO (the electrical utility for the area). This change-out took place ahead of schedule and without interruption to plant production. Props go to Tom O'Keefe, Stan Cramer, Steve Hesson and Roberto Colon for pulling this off so smoothly. Their hard work and attention to detail made for a happy client; now that's performance marketing! |

RCS in the Community!
One of the really cool things about R.C. Stevens is how involved we are in the community. There are few companies of any size that are as involved in their community. In case you are new or didn't know this, the RCS mission statement even references our committment to being involved in our community.
We build our business through partnership by exceeding expectation with performance, training, and education, while actively supporting our community.
Some opportunities to make a difference are listed in the next column. Please take time to read about them and do what you can to help!

Here we are at the end of Canstruction®! On Sunday, October 9th, we had our mock build to identify any issues and order more food if needed. It's a good thing, too, because we ended up ordering more canned tomatoes and tuna, boxes of corn muffin mix, lots more bags of rice and split peas, and packets of Kool-Aid for the flag.

The actual build at Orlando Fashion Square took place on Sunday, October 16th and we finished our structure first. Our final donations tallied $1,905 and we used 1,524 cans/packages of food! The Awards Ceremony was held on October 20th and our 'Canful' tower won an award for "Bonnes Couleurs", which means "Right Colors" (in French of course). The judges comments were: "Thankfully, it didn't live up to its origin's name.....'I Fell' (Eiffel)....get it?", "Marvelous monument", and finally, "the Whimsical French flag - loved that detail!! "
Thank you, again, for your donations! Through your generosity, we were able to purchase all the food we needed to build our structure. By the end of Canstruction®, there were 31,565 food items used to build 11 structures (three high schools built structures, too). All this food will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank just in time for the Holidays. To see some of the other entries click here.
Special thanks go out to those who helped somewhere along the process; whether it was the original design meetings (Dack, Darrell, Tom), sending out letters for donation requests and letting people know where and how to vote (Betsy), the "mock" build (Brandon, Cheri, Garrison, Glenn, JR) the actual build (Brandon, Cheri), and finally, the De-Canstruction® (Cheri, Garrison, JR)! Great job everyone!
