Dear (Contact First Name),

Trick or Treat! October is upon us!  It is amazing to me how quickly time passes.  It seems to continue picking up steam too.  Have you ever found yourself wishing time away?  Before you say "no", think about whether or not you have ever wished the day, month or season would be over?  Maybe because you are tired or because it's too hot and you want the cooler weather to arrive, but whatever the reason, you have wished time away.  Each day presents new opportunities.  When you wish the days away you are wishing those opportunities away.  I know this isn't what you thought you were doing; however, opportunity seldom shows up with a neat label that says "great opportunity found here" - you have to find and make the most of them.  So next time you find yourself wishing the day, month or season away, ask yourself if you really want to move on past each day so quickly, or maybe start making the most of each one.  Just my two cents!

Thanks, Tim

Spotlight on Cindy!

 cindy

This month's spotlight is on Cindy Wait.  Born in Salina, Kansas, Cindy moved to Florida by way of Atlanta, Georgia (where  she met her husband of 20 years, Jim).  They have three children (Stephanie, Jennifer, Jonathan),three grandchildren (Kim, Selina, Bella), and three pit bulls (Zeus, Kyla, Felony).

Cindy loves to read and do crossword puzzles. Her philosophy on life is that the older you get, the better you get and also that humor is critical to dealing with everyday life!

Cindy also loves to travel; her last trip was to Europe (Paris and Rome).

A little known fact about Cindy is that if she could wake up tomorrow and be anything else she wanted, she would be a surgeon.

Her pet peeve:  People who constantly drive in the passing lane (and will not move even if their lives depended on it).

Cindy's first car was a 1974 Ford Pinto and she paid .19 for a gallon of gas.  Her very first job was as a corn detassler for two weeks during the summer when she was 15; she earned a whopping  .65/hour..... Those were the good old days!

Relay for Life

Last year RCS made a great showing at the Winter Garden Relay for Life in honor of Jim Crabtree.  For those of you who have joined the company recently, Jim was one of our project managers who, at a much too young age, died of Cancer last spring.  We have been touched by this dread disease again.  Allison, one of our PMA's, is just completing her final round of Chemo and Dave's wife, Carole, has begun her own battle with cancer.  Because this has touched all of us so closely, Allison has chosen to captain a 2012 Relay for Life Team for RCS.  The event will be on April 20-21 in Winter Garden.  So why, you might ask, are we already gearing up for this event?  Good question!  On October 25th the Winter Garden Relay for Life will be kicking off it's 2012 event with a team rally to be held at Winter Garden's Tanner Auditorium.  The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Please participate by calling Allison and signing on to the team and attending the rally on the 25th.  Contact Allison at  arudner@rcstevens.com

RCS in the Community!

One of the really cool things about R.C. Stevens is how involved we are in the community. There are few companies of any size that are as involved in their community. In case you are new or didn't know this, the RCS mission statement even references our committment to being involved in our community.

We build our business through partnership by exceeding expectation with performance, training, and education, while actively supporting our community.

Some opportunities to make a difference are listed in the next column. Please take time to read about them and do what you can to help!

News from the Field

Sometimes you get so busy on your own job or project that you don't even know what is going on with the rest of the company.  Check back here periodically to hear about what else is going on.

The Bond Building in Winter Garden is a project near and dear to all of our hearts since it will also become our new office. The project is progressing nicely. Structural improvements are complete, the floor in our office space has gone in, the elevator shaft is complete, and rough-in is in progress as well as the exterior framing.  Tim has shared some of the interior design with the office, and all agree that it will be beautiful!   Exposed brick, hardwood floors and exposed ductwork will set the tone for this loft-style office space.  New work stations will add the needed functionality and modernity and custom art displays will showcase important aspects of our long history, including the violins currently on display in the lobby.  The expected completion date is the end of November.  So if you haven't started thinking about how you are going to pack up your office, you had better start!

We are on our way! We had two meetings with Hunton Brady in September. During our first meeting, we all decided on the Eiffel Tower as our structure. We also made the decision to build it using red, white, and blue cans/packages of food which also happens to be the flag colors for France........eiffel

During our second meeting, we finalized which cans / packages of food we will be using so even though our structure is in France, we are using mostly Italian food; oh well! The base of the structure will be Hunts Tomato items (red); the center portion will be Publix brand canned fruits and vegetables (white), and the top of the tower will be pasta boxes (blue). Our structure will definitely be colorful and when all is said and done, I think it will be amazing.

Soon after our first meeting, we sent letters to potential sponsors using Constant Contact and as of our last meeting on the 26th had already received over $800. Thank you, Dave, for your idea of using Constant Contact!

The next step is a "mock" build which will take place on Sunday, October 9th starting at noon at Danny Gordon's (Hunton Brady) house (1111 Greenwood Street, Orlando, 32801) and then the actual build at Orlando Fashion Square Mall on Sunday morning, October 16th at 10:00. The more people who attend the better off we will be because there are cases and cases of food to unpack and then repack for the trip to the mall. If you have not already signed on, please do so now! Cindy is spearheading this project, so make sure you speak with her. Remember, many hands make for light work for all.
