Spotlight on Buford!
 | | Buford Lashley at work |
This month's spotlight is on Buford Lashley. Buford is a Florida- native, born in Winter Haven
Hospital. He grew up in Haines City. Buford has been in construction for 38 years, 34 of those with RCS. Buford is currently working on our projects at Orlando Health, hence the scrubs in the photo above. He is married and has a grown daughter and one grandson. Buford's first car was a 1968 VW Bug. Buford loves to hunt and fish and if he wasn't in construction, he would likely work where he could be on a lake or in a forest all day. When asked to summarize his life's philosophy, Buford said, "I don't smoke, I don't chew and I don't go with girls that do"; words to live by indeed! |

RCS Picnic
On July 30th RCS held it's annual picnic on Lake Down. As always, Tim cooked up some delicious BBQ, Mary pulled together some fabulous side dishes and there were too many desserts to be healthy! There were jetskis, water skiing, and a few spirited games of water basketball. It was really great to connect with everyone outside of work. If you see Tim and Mary, make sure you say "thanks" for all the work they did to make this a relaxing day for the rest of us! Many of you have already viewed the photos on facebook, but here are a few more for you to enjoy. |

RCS in the Community!
One of the really cool things about R.C. Stevens is how involved we are in the community. There are few companies of any size that are as involved in their community. In case you are new or didn't know this, the RCS mission statement even references our committment to being involved in our community.
We build our business through partnership by exceeding expectation with performance, training, and education, while actively supporting our community.
Some opportunities to make a difference are listed in the next column. Please take time to read about them and do what you can to help!

We have officially begun! Our first meeting with Hunton Brady Architects is Monday, September 12th at 5:30 p.m. in their office (800 North Magnolia Ave, Suite 600). The purpose of this meeting will be to make a decision on which "Wonder of the World" project we will choose to build. I recently emailed some options to everyone to review. We need to choose three structures to propose at the meeting. Some of the favorites are: The Eiffel Tower, Chicken Itza (pyramid), Easter Island, and Leaning Tower of Peas (Darrell's great idea). However, Betsy came up with an awesome idea, which is the Pentagon. The renovations are done and the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is coming up; what a great opportunity to showcase America's strength and determination!
One of the other things we need to finalize at this meeting is the list of potential corporate or individual sponsors. I need to get letters sent to them as soon as possible asking for donations; remember that our structure has to be a minimum of 1000 cans. I need names for that list!! Please supply a list of those you believe may be interested.
Last but not least, our second meeting will be Monday, September 26th. This meeting will be to finalize the details, the design statement, and the sketch (Hunton Brady will be responsible for the sketch). All these things are due to
Canstruction® Orlando by October 3rd. Please mark your calendar for both of these meetings, Sept 12th and Sept 26th. If you have any questions in the meantime, give me a shout at cwait@rcstevens.com or call me at 407 299 3800. Thanks, Cindy.

R.C. Stevens is proud to be a sponsor of A Gift for Teaching. This worthy organization collects school supplies for Central Florida children and runs a free school supply store. Teachers can stop by this store and "shop" (for free) for items they need in their classrooms. In order to do that though, they need community support. Not only in the form of corporate sponsorship, but also in the form of donations of needed items from individuals. Some of the items they need are binders, paper, glue, tissues, paper towels and disenfectant wipes. This is an easy way to be involved in your community! If you wish to make a donation, please contact Betsy (321-281-5308) for a complete list of needed items or drop donations off in her office. |
