Greetings!

Here we are, already August.  Kids are getting ready for another school year, we've enjoyed our company picnic and reconnecting with each other outside of work, and football season isn't too far off (go Gators).  The football teams that win year after year don't let nay-sayers distract them. They know their value and their talents, and they figure out a way to win.   Similarly, we face difficulties and gloom and doom economic forecasts every day.  However, I feel very fortunate that even in these very tough economic times, we have continued to bring in work.  We have all risen to the challenge and provided great service to our clients and in return, they have continued to award us projects.  It has been a team effort; everyone has played their part in capturing this work.  From performance marketing (going above and beyond in the field) to office staff support (going above and beyond in the office), everyone can take credit for our success.  So, keep up the good work but don't rest on your laurels.  There is always another contractor out there that would be happy to step in if we falter. Go ahead and celebrate, but don't take your eye off the ball!        Thanks, Tim

Spotlight on Amy!

Say hello to Amy!  Born and raised in Orlando where she lived until high school graduation in 1988, Amy then attended the University of Florida (where she rooted for the Seminoles) for two years. She returned to Orlando andamy completed her A.A. at Valencia Community College and began attending the University of Central Florida on a part time basis. Amy married her husband, Rufus, 15 years ago in December.  They have 4 children which include Micah (turning 11 next month), Jesseca (13), and Rufus' two grown sons. She and her family live in Winter Garden (almost three years now) and plan to stay there for awhile.

Growing up, Amy wanted to be a Veterinarian. Her interests and hobbies include running, singing, bellydancing, playing violin with her kids (they play strings as well... cello, violin), and gardening.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The Order of the Eastern Star, former member of the Jones High School Alumni Band, and many other civic organizations in the Central Florida area.  Amy has served as Moderator of the Deacon Board in the Presbyterian Church USA, church secretary, church treasurer, directed numerous concert choirs in various churches, and served as Praise Leader.

One of Amy's pet peeves is people who say "ax" instead of "ask!" Make sure you keep that in mind when you need something from her!

Field Trip!

We recently took a field trip to our new office in lovely downtown Winter Garden.  Did you know that our building has had quite the history? You can see it written on the bricks smudged with smoke from a fire that took place many years ago and in the old-fashioned brick column footing supporting the structure.  Our new space will have the exposed brick walls paying homage to the building's history, but it will also be very clean and modern.  This is an exciting time for the RCS family. Oh, and by the way, we had the good fortune to sample the pizza down the street at Winter Garden Pizza too.  Thank you, Tim!  We are all looking forward to our new digs!  (To view more photos of our field trip, click here! )

NOTES ABOUT OUR MOVE!

bond 2There are a few things you need to know about the move to our new office.  First, we are not only moving to a new address, but we are entering the world of the paperless office.  What that means to you is that all old files will be going to the new space electronically.  We are NOT taking old paper files or old paper drawings; if they are not already on the server you will need to scan and save them.  The other thing to bear in mind is that you will be responsible for packing up your own office.  Think carefully about what you want to take with you.  The new offices are going to be beautiful and uncluttered!

ENR Ranks Top Contractors in Southeast!

The July 4th issue of Engineering News Record ranks the top 100 Contractors for 2010 in the Southeast.  R.C. Stevens was ranked 88th overall. Our rank last year was 131.  This type of recognition carries a good deal of weight with our clients.  Great job everyone; keep up the good work!

RCS to participate in Canstruction
 with Hunton Brady Architects!

Canstruction is a design competition in which firms giraffesbuild themed structures using only "full" cans and packages of food. (Some of last year's entries are pictured here.) There are several different types of organizations that get involved; however, the majority of teams are from the A/E industry. As you can imagine, creativity, ingenuity and above all, teamwork are all well represented in the efforts to design and buildcanstruction a structure that not only represents the current year's theme (Wonders of the World) but is also self-supporting and structurally sound (meaning no adhesives or reinforcement).

For our local Canstruction group, the build takes place on a Sunday at Fashion Square Mall. After the teams are done with the finishing touches, the structures stay on display for the entire following week to be viewed by the public. National  awards are given for the structures deemed "Best

Structural", "Best Use of Labels", "Best Meal", and "Juror's Fpenguinsavorite" while other local awards are given.  On the Sunday following the build, the structures are then "DeCanstructed" and Second Harvest Food Bank is present to accept all the donations of cans and packages of food...just in time for the Holidays!

This year the RCS family will be teamed up with Hunton Brady Architects.   In order to make the most of this opportunity, we need you to volunteer. We need shoppers to purchase the food, strong arms and trucks to transport, and folks who are willing to build the structure.
