Natalie's father Steve Foley speaking at Cardinal Life
Kingdom First Ministries
Greetings!

Once a month, we have a meeting on campus called Cardinal Life. Traditionally, we invite a speaker to come and aim to gear this meeting towards seekers and not yet believers. The other three weeks of the month, we have what we call "Cross Training" at the Stenstrom's house. Cross Training is a very rich time of dinner followed by worship, teaching, community, and often a time of students sharing something that God has been putting on their hearts throughout the week.

The Cardinal Life meetings that we had this quarter were exceptional. At the first Cardinal Life meeting of the quarter, we had the joy and privilege of hearing from my dad, Steve Foley! His testimony is very powerful. He overcame a lot of adversity growing up in a family of 13 kids in New Orleans, and he came to know and be radically transformed by Jesus at Tulane University before going on to play for the Broncos for 12 years. I had the privilege of growing up with a father that modeled to me what it looks like to truly trust and love Jesus more than anything else.

Needless to say, it was such a joy to have my spiritual hero share to a group of people that I care about so deeply! I know a lot of people were really impacted by it, particularly one girl on the track team who indicated on her response card that she wanted to find out more about starting and having a personal relationship with God. I followed up with her a few days later and had the joy of sharing the gospel with her, telling her about Jesus and what makes Him so unique and incredible. It was so clear that the Holy Spirit was moving in power in her heart and my words were falling on good, fresh soil. She has now invited Jesus into her life, joined one of my small groups, and is eagerly and excitedly reading through her Bible and boldly sharing her faith with those around her. I have already seen a lot of fruit and transformation in her life.  She sends me emails constantly with joyful exclamations of how excited and alive she is to be apart of this amazing community and to have started this incredible journey with God. I LOVE seeing people come to know Jesus and their earthly lives and eternal destinies being radically altered!

Prayer
Philippians 3:8-9:
"But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ."

We pray that students (and ourselves) will increasingly come to know Jesus like this!

Trent Dilfer and OJ Atogwe at CL
We had the huge privilege of hearing from Trent Dilfer and Cardinal Life alumni OJ Atogwe at the second Cardinal Life meeting of the quarter. They both hit it out of the park with their talks, and we had a really good turnout with quite a few new students.

Trent's talk was definitely geared to a Stanford athlete audience as he talked about the fleeting nature of successful performance "compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ and being found in Him" (Philippians 3:8). He encouraged students to view their lives and walks with Jesus less about their performance (what they do) and more about the journey of who they are becoming.

OJ shared his testimony and was so full of grace and humility. It is so evident that He has a very devoted and deep relationship with Christ. He shared how his life has become more and more about Jesus and bringing glory to Him, giving all to be his disciple and obeying Him in everything. His story issued a strong challenge to students to know Christ as the treasure of greatest worth that He is. Trent and OJ are both awesome examples, and we were blessed to have them share with us!

senior night prayer
Senior Night

The last Cardinal Life of the quarter was senior night where we got to hear from 11 of the 14 graduating seniors. They shared with us what they are doing next year, what God has taught them over the last four years, how they have grown, and any words of wisdom to the younger students. It was so powerful to hear from everyone! After they finished sharing, Trent, myself, Emilee, and Jim shared some short words of wisdom as they embark on this new stage of life. If you want to see a snippet of what was shared with them, you can check out my blog here and read the most recent post titled "What is the good life? Who is the truly blessed person?"

This graduating class is especially dear to Trent and I because we started working with Kingdom First their freshmen year, so we have been with them all four years. We are really excited that all but one of the graduating seniors will be around this area and will still be involved in this ministry, so it makes it a lot easier to not have to say good byes. It was a really edifying and encouraging night. I know we came away feeling very encouraged that our presence at Stanford has facilitated a life changing and faith growing community and place where people can come to know Jesus deeply. We are so excited to see what God has in store for each of them in this next stage of life.

Have a blessed week!!
