Ways to Help
Reflections from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,

Somehow that wonderful African American Spiritual "Deep River" keeps humming through my mind as I reflect upon our journey together in recent months.  "Deep River, my home is over Jordan... "

And what better way to celebrate the journey than on a riverboat?  With a splash of the full moon dancing across the water to the sultry jazz tunes of the Jeff Lofton Trio and good friends gathered around tables on the upper deck of the Commodore Pup, tapping toes, sipping wine, munching on the fajita buffet of Hula Hut Restaurant and languishing in the breeze, the Symphony of Soul Riverboat Rendezvous on July 24th turned out to be an evening swimming in magic!  Thank you, Kevin Heady, for planning such a relaxing yet festive evening and thank you, Fabrizio, for snapping professional photographs of the event.

Our compilation CD Sugar & Spice is coming along beautifully!  Please note that the date for the Sugar & Spice Benefit Concert & CD Release Party has changed to the evening of Sunday, October 17th at Antone's.

With all my heart, I thank each and every one of you for your participation in the Symphony of Soul family.  It is because of your friendship and support that we are able to continue navigating the waters and providing "musical medicine for the soul" to people in care centers.  Deep River... let's keep keep "rollin' on the river"!

Humming Along in Appreciation
The Original Recipe Band brought a great deal of joy and healing to the senior citizens of The Summit at Westlake last week.  Thanks to the generous donation of our friends at The Schissler Foundation, Latin Jazz artist Myrna Cabello lifted the spirits of our homeless neighbors at Trinity Center the other day, while Elaine Barber played ethereal harp music followed by the soothing guitar sounds of Craig Toungate at Hospice Austin's Christopher House.  Michael Shay roused up some singing and dancing among the folks at Special Friends (for Alzheimer's patients) in Georgetown, thanks to the Minchen-Beville Foundation. Myrna Cabello will follow in the footsteps of the Jeff Lofton Trio and bring musical medicine to Austin Recovery next month, thanks to the wonderful contribution of the Crouch Family Foundation.

Our Mission

Symphony of Soul is devoted to nourishing the soul and promoting wellness through the healing power of the performing arts.

Symphony of Soul brings live music or "musical medicine" to people in need. Dedicated to lifting the spirits of people facing challenging circumstances, we bring live music to convalescent homes, hospitals, centers for the developmentally disabled, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, psychiatric facilities, and shelters for women, children, families and the homeless. Our performances take place in lobbies, cafeterias, hospital wards and activity rooms for groups ranging in size from 5 to 50 and up to an hour in length. Artists are paid a stipend for each performance.
