AUGUST 2011

Know Yoga, Know Peace

Welcome to Yoga for the New Millennium!

This month there are more new programs at Kanjin Yoga. We continue with our Restorative/Stress Reduction Yoga Workshop. However, this month the class size is limited to  6-people. So, if you missed this workshop in July and you prefer a more intimate setting, this will be perfect for you. Also, the time has moved to 6PM-8:30PM. Finally, this workshop will be held at The Kanjin Yoga and Retreat Center in Columbia City. I hope that you will treat yourself, a family member or a friend to one or more of our workshops, classes or events. The workshop benefits range from stress reduction to a sense of better mind/body balance at a price that cannot be beat ($30/person). Register NOW

In our last issue we learned about yoga for athletes and a yoga program for golfers has seen good results for some of my regular yoga students. Check the August schedule for the next class.

I hope you like the look and feel of the new Kanjin Yoga web site. Kanjin means "observation of the mind".  And yoga is a combination of physical and mental techniques that help the whole body return to its natural state of well being. I will share more of my thoughts and perhaps you will share your insights about this on the Kanjin Yoga blog.

This month through our community based wellness programs we offer a Health is Wealth seminar at various locations including the library. (This program is not sponsored by the Seattle Public Library)

Thank you, to the fans of this newsletter, the yoga students who attend the classes and many others in the community who have helped me promote yoga. Everyone benefits from staying active at all ages.  It is my wish that you find a place for yoga in your existing fitness program. Or that you learn to use yoga as the anchor for kick starting your stretching and flexibility program if you are starting a new one.

I hope you will share your thoughts with me about anything I can do to make the newsletter more interesting for you. Finally, may you enjoy peace, happiness and the best of health throughout 2011.

Namaste,
D

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitued, to me, is more important than facts. it is more important than past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a home. the remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the inevitable. the only think we can do is play on th one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it." --Charles Swindoll

Dedication

My next book is titled:

 YOGA for the New Millennium

Dharana Reflections Off the Mat, Poems and Images

The book is dedicated to my daughter.

Congratulations Newleyweds Mr. and Mrs. Waller!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The science of Yoga constitutes the teachings required to achieve perfection, which is the original essence of every human spirit. Nature herself offers one path to perfection. The path of nature, learning through mistakes and suffering, the process of trial and error, is arduous and requires many reincarnations.

I can recall taking regular walks in my neighborhood as a form of exercise. I would go either into a local park which had several well-trodden trails and a wetlands or walk on the city streets. I much preferred the local park. Along the trail, there were beautiful natural surroundings. Sometimes there were radio controlled airplane enthusiasts doing stunts with their airplanes or large gatherings of people celebrating a special event. The park included a dedicated play area for the kids. I enjoyed the variety of scenery along the trails. I was most attracted to the trees. They seemed to stand in watch over all of the other activity going on around them.

The Road Ahead

Take time to be in harmony with nature.

Each time I entered the park, the trees had changed just a little. Some had shed the outer layer of their bark. Others had dropped a branch or blossomed into a fragrant and flowering scene. I would listen to the life in the park and notice that everything had its own rhythm. The people, the animals, the plants, the water, the wind were all moving along their own paths, but all coexisting in harmony. The days that I spent walking in the park allowed me to think deeply about anything that bothered me and place these thoughts into their proper perspective. I learned a lot about the perfection of nature during my walks. I did not fully grasp that I was part of that perfection until years later.

Closing Words

I hope that you enjoy the very best that life has to offer and that in return you will share your gifts with the world.

Namaste,
D

MIND/BODY STRESS REDUCTION (Yoga Nidra) WORKSHOP

This Integrative Yoga Stress Reduction workshop is a unique opportunity to learn the sleep of the yogi's also known as Yoga Nidra. This is a powerful, yet completely effortless method of self-inquiry and personal transformation. It combines time-honored insights of the yoga traditions with the discoveries of modern brain science. Yoga Nidra relies on no doctrines or dogmas, just your own personal experience. It is not therapy. Yoga Nidra assumes you are fine as you are, and at the same time, offers a way to resolve long-standing difficulties, enhance your creativity, gain direct experience of your own true nature, and the true nature of everything.
