Issue 4

I am very happy to share the practice of yoga with you. The purpose for the newsletter is to share more information with you about using yoga for overall renewal of the body and mind. I hope that you find the information in the newsletter interesting.

The featured article (free download) this month helps describe the benefits of yoga,"Top 10 Reasons to Try Yoga". This is a must read article for those interested in starting a new yoga practice or anyone who would like to learn more about the benefits of a sustained yoga practice. In the other monthy article "Perspectives on Yoga", I reflect on yoga's potential for impacts on social change.

I am trying to strike a balance between sharing and informing. I share my yoga journey with you, via "Perspectives on Yoga",  and inform through interesting articles that are published by nationally recognized experts. I also keep in touch with you about the local yoga program that I teach in Seattle. This month is full of great yoga workshops, classes and events. I hope you will join me and the other instructors for our very effective and informative programs that are designed to help you with your wellness program. This month the two featured classes are Restorative Stress Reduction Yoga and Silent Meditation. See SPECIAL Events and Yoga Classes on the sidebar to the right of this article for more information about our community projects and classes. Featured SPRING classes are listed below.

Thank you, to the fans of this newsletter, the yoga students who have attend the classes and many others in the community who have helped me promote yoga. Everyone benefits from staying active at all ages.  It is my wish that you find a place for yoga in your existing fitness program. Or that you learn to use yoga as the anchor for kickstarting your stretching and flexibility program if you are starting a new one.

I hope you will share your thoughts with me about anything I can do to make the newsletter more interesting for you. Finally, may you enjoy peace, happiness and the best of health throughout 2011.

Namaste,
D

Yoga for 1000 Acts of Justice

What is 1000 Acts of Justice? It is the initiative launched by the grass roots organization Justice Works located in Seattle to enable everyone to perform acts of justice.

"We are a people-based and people-driven organization whose goal is to create a safer and more just community. This is done through providing the previously incarcerated with positive transitions back into society and campaigning for just laws and equal treatment of all people." - Justice Works

After many years of working hard to grow awareness and support for fixing the three strikes law.  By hosting a variety of events throuout the Pacific Northwest region the Justice Works team launched their 1000 Acts of Justice initiative. Anyone can participate in this event. The goal is for each person (up to 1000 people) to engage in an act of social justice and register their social action at the 1000 Acts of Justice Facebook page. This initiative will culminate in a week of events (May 1 - 7) to celebrate the programs outreach to the community and raise more awareness about the organization. In Seattle, many organizations, performers, authors, business owners and others are supporting the event through in-kind donations, participation in events and marketing.

One way that I am contributing to the 1000 Acts of Justice is by offering free beginner yoga classes for the Justice Works organization. I have been interested in partnering with Justice Works and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I know that as we see the impact that 1000 Acts of Justice will have on the Seattle region, others will be inspired to launch similar programs. I feel encouraged and inspired by the many opportunities available to use yoga for social change.
