Member Testimonial of the Month
Robert Johnson, President, Wildlife Habitat Council
|
The Wildlife Habitat Council has a mission to inform landowners of the potential they have in using the lands they manage for biodiversity and conservation education. We are pleased to be a charter member of SAC. WHC uses a voluntary approach that encourages landowners, particularly companies, to seek partnerships with other landowners, agencies, universities, and NGOs, and to use their collective knowledge, experience, and resources for self-improvement in sustainability and community responsibility. The Wildlife Habitat Council endorses the role of the Stewardship Action Council in advancing this concept of business performance and appreciates the opportunity of using the diversity of the SAC membership to increase the effectiveness of the WHC programs while contributing to the SAC mission of business excellence.

Congratulations to Covanta Marion Receiving Honorable Mention from ASME
|
SAC Member Covanta Marion, Inc. received honorable mention in the combustion category from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' (ASME's) Materials and Energy Recovery Division for outstanding performance. The award is based on the facility contributions to the field of solid waste processing. The key selection criteria were:

- Innovative Contributions to Solid Waste Processing
- Facility Economics & Safety

- Role in Integrated Waste Management
The award was presented at the 2012 National Waste Processing Conference (NAWTEC) held in Portland, Maine.
The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has announced the recipients of the 2012 Excellence Awards.
SWANA's Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound solid waste management through their commitment to utilizing effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, advancing worker and community health and safety, and implementing successful public education and outreach programs. Programs also must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible through their compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
This year's awards honor 41 programs and facilities in 14 different categories spanning the width and breadth of the municipal solid waste industry. Award winners represent the most innovative and dynamic organizations throughout North America and SWANA is proud to recognize their accomplishments.
"The recipients of the SWANA Excellence Awards represent the best solid waste management practices in North America today," said John H. Skinner, Ph.D., SWANA Executive Director and CEO. "Community leaders should be very proud of the valuable contributions that these projects provide to their citizens," Skinner added.
The winners will be acknowledged and awarded at the annual WASTECON conference in Washington, D.C. on August 14, 2012.
In the waste - to -energy category, Covanta Marion, Inc.; Brooks, Oregon was awarded bronze.
