Principal Search begins at Crocker
Crocker's Principal, Jessica Nella, announced her resignation at the end of May. According to Superindentent Anthony Ranii, "Although the people who inhabit our district will always change, our pursuit of excellence, our maintenance of the highest standards, our care for the whole child, and our vision to create contributing and responsible members of our society will not." Ms. Nella will be returning to teaching in the area of health and wellness. Mr. Ranii says "while we will wholeheartedly miss having Jessica as part of our educational team, we respect her decision to head in a different direction and wish her only the best."
We have already begun the hiring process for a new Principal. Mr. Ranii states. "We have publicized this position and have already begun to receive applications. The process for principal selection will be similar to the successful one that we have used in the past. It will include a paper screening, phone screening, and two interview panels made up of various district and community stakeholders. We will be guided throughout by the leadership characteristics that we have identified."
Mr. Ranii concludes by stating "I am confident that we will find a person whose skill set, goals, and vision are a match for the high standards of this district and the unique needs of middle school students."

Interview with Chris Collins, Incoming Assistant Principal
Q. Why did you choose to apply for the Assistant Principal position?
A. I believe the timing was right for me and for the school. I taught for 8 years in San Rafael, and am just finishing my 8th year at Crocker, so my job changes happen in 8 year increments! While at Crocker I have been an English teacher, but have taken on a series of leadership positions which have broadened my scope. For example, I have been the language arts data advisor for the last 5-6 years and, along with the other English teachers, have focused on ways to improve the program for all students.
In terms of timing at Crocker, this is the 3rd Assistant Principal in 3 years and I view my role as an opportunity to bring stability to the job. I know the culture of Crocker, and the expectations of the parents, staff and students. I'm also familiar first hand with what the staff expects from the administration.
I have established a rapport with many of the students and many of the families, which should help with the transition. This will make it easier to have communication remain open.
Q. What do you see as some challenges/priorities?
A. We continue to look at revamping the schedule for the year 2013-2014. Starting next year, we're going to more effectively service the needs of the students within the school day, resulting in fewer elective choices.
It's also a priority to maintain what Crocker offers and build on it.
Q. What are you most excited about?
A. I'm excited to try something new, and to have the opportunity to impact the school at large. I'm looking forward to making an impact on more students than I typically see. I'm always asking students to take risks and try new things, so I thought it was time for me to take a risk as well.
Q. What do you think makes Crocker unique?
A. At Crocker, many of the students have a desire and drive for achievement. Students work hard to get the best out of themselves. Crocker's a place where it's "cool to do well". It's a fun place to work, and be part of a team, because the students are eager to learn and do well.

Annual Giving Campaign a HUGE Success
The HSF 2011-2012 Annual Giving Campaign would like to THANK YOU for your annual pledge to our campaign. Fueled by donations from more than 1,000 parents and community members, the success of the annual campaign comes at a critical time to help offset reductions caused by California's state-wide budget cuts. These funds will benefit every student in the district!
Our goal remains 100% parent participation with a strong showing from our alumni and community members. Parents and community members interested in supporting Hillsborough public schools via HSF may visit our website.
Thank you again for your generosity and commitment to maintaining excellence in the Hillsborough public schools!
