Greetings!

Our Alumni Association continues to grow each and every day.  We are excited to welcome the Class of 2011 as new members of our Alumni Association.  We look forward to continuing a long-lasting relationship with them and all of our alumni.  Please note that currently we have only parent emails.  If you would like to add your child's email to the database, just forward this email to them.  Over the past several months, we have noticed a lot of reunion activity with individual classes and we are happy to announce that the Class of 1976 is planning a reunion.  If you graduated during that time, please click here to read more about the Reunion plans.  The Class of 1976 is scheduling an event on November 5, 2011.

We'd also like to thank the Class of 1967 for their financial contribution to Crocker Middle School.  This donation was made a few years ago when they held a class reunion.  We are happy to announce that we will be  using their generous donation to help create a new mural wall that will be going up behind the old lecture hall this summer/fall.  We will feature the new mural wall in a future newsletter as soon as it is complete.  Our thanks to the Class of 1967 and to the current Class of 2011 who also contributed funds towards the mural wall in honor of outgoing principal Janet Chun.

HSF has had another banner year for our public schools thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents and community donors.  We wanted to thank you for your financial support and hope that you will continue to be lifelong supporters of HSF.  This year, we have implemented a new program called The Heart of HSF.  This new distinction is offered to families whose children are graduating and who have continuously supported the Foundation since their families enrolled in our public schools.  The new Heart of HSF distinction will be recognized in our annual brochure.  If you are one of these families, please take a moment to send your donation in today.  Just go to  www.hsf.org to make a secure donation today. Our thanks to the graduating families who truly are the Heart of HSF and our best wishes to all of them in their future endeavors.

As you know, every donation makes a difference and in these difficult economic times facing our public schools, your donations truly have an impact on each and every one of our students (and our community).  So thank you again.  Please note, it's never too late to make a donation.  Just go to www.hsf.org and contribute today!

Hope to see all of you at our year-end HSF community event, the Family Fun Run on Sunday, June 5 at 8:00 a.m.

Family Fun Run

North School Field

It's that time of year again!  Gather up your fellow alums and join us for this year's Family Fun Run on Sunday, June 5.  The Fun Run starts at 8:00 a.m.  You can register online at www.hsf.org .  This year, we've brought back the famous pancake breakfast, live music and awards.  We've also added some great vendors including massages, running shoe discounts, health related information from Kaiser and much more (actually, if you'd like to be a vendor and would like to participate, please email us at events@hsf.org).

This is a great day to come out, see old friends, meet new friends, work in some great exercise and raise funds for our public schools.  A perfect day for everyone!!!

So do us favor.  Contact your alumni friends and ask them to join you at the Fun Run!  We'd love to see all of you there!

CROCKER HONORS MRS. JANET CHUN

As you all know, our beloved principal, Janet Chun, will be retiring after many years devoted to educating and leading our children. Janet is respected and loved by parents and students alike, and many people have asked what they could do to honor her retirement.

There are two projects, which Janet has wanted to complete around campus. The first is a mural to be painted on the large wall near the black top. Diane Kounalakis is coordinating this effort. The second project is a ball wall, which is considerably more costly; we are hopeful that we will be able to raise the funds necessary. If you would like to contribute to these items, in honor of Janet and all that she has done for children in our community, please send a check to the address below.

Additionally, we would like to put together a memory box of letters and photos. The box will be covered with photos and we need many!If you would like to contribute a photo, artwork, or letter for Janet, please mail or deliver to Crocker School by May 27th.  Photos may also be uploaded to the following address:

It is a secure site and the password is "Vikings"

Although we will have Janet around all summer and intermittently in the fall, we'd like to present the box to her by the end of the year.
Letters should be sent to:

Thank you for helping create these special gifts for Janet!

ANTHONY RANII ANNOUNCES NEW PRINCIPAL OF CROCKER MIDDLE SCHOOL

It is my pleasure to announce that Jessica Nella will be our next Crocker Principal. Jessica, our current Assistant Principal at Crocker, competed against more than 80 quality applicants. She went through two initial interviews, and, along with other finalist candidates, completed a writing sample, an "in box" activity, planned a day at her site during which I spoke to numerous staff members and parents, and interviewed with the Board of Trustees.

What I found was a person who matched the leadership characteristics that we as a community had developed. Jessica is a warm, child-centered educator with a deep knowledge and love of the middle school child that inspires those with whom she works. I am excited to work with Jessica in this new role, and know that the students, staff, and parents will find her to be responsive, diligent, and absolutely committed to Crocker. Jessica has been an administrator in two middle schools in two different states, and brings a deep understanding of the growth and development of the middle school child. She's an excellent listener, a strong communicator, and a deep thinker who will be a role model for all of Crocker's students and staff.

Jessica will be starting her new role July 1st, and we are thrilled that Janet Chun, the current Crocker Principal, will be working throughout the summer and into the beginning of next year to assist in the transition.
