Hillsborough schools are top notch! Our Hillsborough school district consistently ranks among the top 1% in California for academic performance. Through the generous donations of parents, alumni and fellow community members, the Hillsborough Schools Foundation (HSF) was able to contribute more than $3,000,000 directly to our schools last year.
Hillsborough's academic excellence continues to attract new families and students to our wonderful community. The Hillsborough City School District is renowned for "Raising Excellence" in student achievement in California. Once again, Hillsborough Schools have experienced record enrollment as young families continue to be drawn to our community schools. Thanks to our donors, HSF contributed 15% of the Hillsborough Schools' budget last year, providing funding across the curriculum. As a result, our students have smaller class sizes in all grades, enrichment specialists in reading, foreign language, math, science and fine arts, counseling services for all students and technology upgrades in all schools.
Public schools in California continue to face grave challenges. Only 17% of local property taxes go to Hillsborough schools. Last year, due to declining property tax revenues, our school district had to make more than $300,000 in ongoing budget cuts. This year, our school district hopes to avoid the prospect of having to make any further cuts in programs and staff. As a result, we are turning to our parent families, alumni and fellow community members to help bridge the gap in our increased funding requirements.
