The Metropolitan Atlanta Violence Prevention Partnership
- New Webpage: The Metropolitan Atlanta Violence Prevention Partnership (MAVPP) participants will launch the new webpage within the next few weeks. The launch is part of the 21st Century Non-Violence Movement. "If you missed the movement in the 1960's, you can join it in the 21st Century!"
-
Violence Prevention Programs: MAVPP participants have identified over 10 science-based and innovative programs to work collaboratively across six counties in response to the serious rash of violent injuries and deaths facing the Atlanta community. Innovative refers to strategies that have demonstrated national and international influence, such as Kingian Nonviolence. Nationally recognized celebrities and high profile community leaders are working with MAVPP leaders in a plan to advocate for tested violence prevention approaches through online video-based appeals to the community.
- Fundraising Initiative: Plans are underway to conduct a Non-Violence Comedy Tour in October, 2012. Comedian Larry D. Veal is offering his services to MAVPP and will host a fundraising event every week at the Uptown Comedy Corner.

- Current Activities: The Office of Injury Prevention's Child Occupant Safety Program (COSP) has been working with the Department of Early Care and Learning to coordinate training opportunities for the childcare consultants in Georgia so everyone is aware of best practices for the transportation of all children. The COSP has created fact sheets for over 6,000 childcare facilities in Georgia so they understand how to transport children in various types of vehicles including personal cars, trucks, SUVs, School Buses, Multi-Function School Activity Buses, and 12-15 passenger vans. In Georgia, all children under the age of 8 years must be restrained by a child restraint system appropriate for their age and weight.
