San Juan Ski Company Newsletter                                                                       March 2011

It's Time to

 Harvest Corn

Spring is officially here and for those of us who are diehard skiers, a new season has just begun.

Late March and April are some of the best months to catski with us since spring storms dump powder that stays cold on our north-facing slopes and a more stable snowpack allows for exploration of our steep above-timberline terrain.

Our online reservation service is not available for the remainder of the season. Call 1.800.208.1780 for reservations.

Thanks For Skiing/Riding With Us

Although the 2010-2011 season brought the Southern San Juans a below-average snowpack, our guests had no shortage of untracked powder this winter. While big dumps were few and far between, small storms kept our powder fresh and deep. And the dumps we did receive were epic. In-your-face, over-your-head cold smoke!

Before we close for the season, we would like to thank all of you who catskied with us this year. If it weren't for you, we would not be here next season. For returning guests, we want to thank you for your commitment to the San Juan Ski Company and for your continuing friendship and support. For our new guests, we want to thank you for choosing us as your catskiing destination.

If you haven't skied with us this year, now is the time to explore our steeper terrain or perhaps hit a spring storm. We still have openings over the next couple of weeks.

Again, thank you for your support and we look forward to skiing with you next season.

Cheers,

Bob and Carrie Rule

San Juan Ski Company

Graysill/Grayrock Chute Out

Round up a posse of six or more like-minded skiers/riders and join the San Juan Ski Company this spring for our first-ever Graysill/Grayrock Chute Out!

It's steep, spring corn skiing at its best, along with a barbeque lunch and a "wild" ride on snowmobiles.

Instead of riding in our snowcoach to meet the snowcat, you'll drive/ride snowmobiles to the snowcat rendezvous. From there, our snowcat will haul you to our highest  drops that  access some of the steepest, gnarliest lines in our terrain. Weather and conditions permitting, our guides will take you down chutes, couloirs and steep open faces on Graysill Mountain and Grayrock Peak.

High-altitude corn skiing works up a hearty appetite! For lunch, barbeque burgers, Southwestern-style, with all the fixin's, will  be prepared by our staff and served at the bottom of the lunch run.

The Chute Out Special is weather-dependent and subject to change based on weather and snow conditions and avalanche danger. Instead, we might be skiing powder!

Price is $275 per person and includes lunch and snowmobile ride to snowcat. A minimum of six skiers/riders is needed to take the snowcat out. This special cannot be booked online.

Call 1.800.208.1780 for information and reservations.
