Hi,

We wanted to provide some immediate feedback on the fitness testing yesterday.  I would summarize my perspective in three comments:

  • There are a number of examples of exceptional improvement and overall athleticism in the program
  • BUT, the majority of players need to significantly improvement their overall level of speed, quickness, strength and power.
  • We have a HIGH level of confidence that you will work hard to do that over the coming months.
If you could not make the testing, there will be a make up testing date next Saturday, November 19th at 9am at ASP.  We should be done by 11am.   We expect ALL 14u-17u players to be tested (unless they are injured).

After the make up tests, I will send out the detailed results. Here are some individual accomplishments from yesterday that are worth mentioning:

The top 3 all around athletes at each age group were:

14u- Knernschield, Vuylsteke, Miller
15u - Martinez, Frelich, Hedman
16u - Monti, Wardlaw, Rouse, Chi
17u - Udina, Schrimpf, Lovell, Cooper

Players that made huge improvements across the board since the last test in February, including adding 10-20 lbs of muscle are:

15u - Martinez, Hedman, Berra and Ohlsen
16u - Swindle, Westrich, Smith, Hicks, Miller and Chi
17u - Quinn, Schmied, Kostello, Schnicker, Sherillo, Nelson

If you are having a hard time establishing a weightlifting/training program, then click here for the Gamers offseason training program (this was developed by a MLB trainer for us 5 years ago and has proven successful).

For most 14-17u players, the goals of the offseason program are simple:

Add- 10+ lbs of muscle

40 time -- reduce by .25-.50 seconds

Shuttle time - reduce by .10-.25 seconds

Med Ball - increase by 3 feet

Bench - add 25lbs to one rep max

Squat - add 50lbs to one rep max

Throwing velocity - add 5 mph

Bat speed - add 5-10 mph

We are here to help you achieve those goals.  If you need help, please ask.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Mark Gallion
