Last night, we broke the news that Athlete's Edge will be moving into the new All-Star Performance facility and will run all the Gamers fitness testing and program-related performance training.  Keith is the head rehab therapist for Cardinals and Rams, and is one of the top professionals in his field in the St. Louis area.  We are happy to have Keith and his group as part of the program.

Through Keith, the Gamers players will be getting direct access to the same performance training and rehab programs that are used by the top athletes in the country.

Click here for a layout of the new ASP facility.  The Athlete's Edge will be housed in the pace marked as "Training/Weight Room".  More information on how Gamers can use Athlete's Edge will emailed in the next couple of days.

We know that there was A LOT of information to absorb last night.  We have now been at this a while, and have a pretty good understanding of what it takes for players to succeed in high school age baseball, and to position themselves to play beyond  high school.

Here are the major points from the presentation last night:

  • The Gamers program can help turn a good athlete into a great baseball player.  We CANNOT turn a bad athlete into a good baseball player.
  • The process of improving athleticism is driven by numbers.  You can chart and measure your results and compare yourself to others.  This is exactly what college coaches do...
  • To excel is not easy.  A player can only get so far on natural ability alone.  It takes sacrifice and a lot of sweat and hard work to get beyond this point.
  • Starting point of this process is to develop a set of offseason training goals, and then develop a realistic plan to achieve them.  Check the presentation for specific improvement numbers that are achievable.
  • There are lots of different ways to achieve those goals.  The right mix for each player depends on a lot of factors.  In this area, we care about results!!!  Are you getting bigger, faster, stronger and quicker?  Are you meeting your goals?
  • 95% of the players in our program  skinny and needs to add 10-20 lbs of muscle over before next season.  This takes lots of lifting and lots of NUTRITION.
  • On average, a 3800 calorie a day diet, including 240 grams of protein is required for a 16-17 year old boy to put on 10-20 lbs of muscle.  If you are confused about this, schedule an appointment with a nutritionist and customize a plan.
  • You need to eat like an athlete, which means eating 5-6 times per day, including a high protein breakfast and eat high protein snacks during the day. Athletes eat vegetables and fruits too.
  • Self-discipline is required to train and eat like an elite athlete. That lesson alone, learning self-discipline, makes this journey worthwhile.

Good luck!  Your coach will be getting back to you on your goals and offseason training plan.

Thanks,
