15-17u Gamers & Parents,
We wanted to take a minute to remind you of the importance of nutrition, hydration and proper sleep during the summer baseball season.
You are a select level athlete and need to treat your body like a select level athlete.
If you do not eat properly, you will not have the energy to compete and will lose weight and strength during the summer. My recommendation is to get back on the 4,000 calorie diet plan if you are one of 90% of the players in the program that need to gain body weight over the next couple of years. If you do not eat a 4,000 calorie, high protein, healthy diet, you will lose weight and strength this summer.
Bring healthy snacks or bars to games!! We are there for 3.5 hours at least. You need to eat a healthy snack after our pregame practice and before the game starts. If not, you will run out of gas in the 5th inning.
Next point -- hydration. Too many players show up with inadequate water. Buy a large thermos and fill it up with cold water before leaving to the game. Never run out of water. Baseball is not cancelled due to heat. We will be practicing and playing in very hot conditions. Pre-hydrate before the game. Stay hydrated during the game.
Precautions like this prevent trips to the emergency room due to dehydration.
Finally, you will be playing baseball 6 days per week over the next 2 months. Your body needs sleep to recover. This is your responsibility. 8+ hours at a minimum. If not, you will be worn down and tired by July. Tired baseball players are not competitive.
Thanks again for being part of the Gamers program,
Mark Gallion
