A Message from Michael Bellaman, ABC President and CEO:

Throughout my 25 years in various leadership roles in the construction industry, I've learned that one of the key factors that drives success within a company is a commitment to training and educating its workforce.

That's why I'm passionate about encouraging you to take advantage of the upcoming 2012 EdCon & Expo in San Antonio, April 24-27. I want you to experience for yourself how this program offers one of the best values for contractors to equip their management team and field supervisors with innovative thinking. You and your team will return to work inspired and full of new ideas to improve productivity and grow your company.

I'm also excited to announce that the STEP Plus Safety Excellence Academy will take place for the first time during this year's EdCon & Expo and will feature presentations from DuPont, CAN and Lend Lease safety experts. This in-depth, three-day program is designed to help attendees understand the importance of leadership commitment, cultural transformation and safety management processes in achieving a zero-incident jobsite.

Take a moment now and go to www.abc.org/EdCon to see the packed agenda. You will see that this year's EdCon & Expo features more than 70 hours of educational sessions covering a range of industry topics, as well as the National Craft Championships, the student chapter Construction Management Competition, a career fair and 50+ construction exhibits with the latest technology and resources to help contractors improve their companies.

Join me at EdCon & Expo for an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with your peers at one of the best industry events of the year. Register by March 30 for the early-bird rate and save $100. I look forward to seeing you in San Antonio!

Best,

ABC Launches Free Webinar Series for Small Contractors

Beginning with the webinar "Business Planning and Management for Construction," at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on March 28, ABC is launching a free monthly webinar series designed to help small and emerging contractors develop, sustain and improve their businesses and remain competitive.

During the first webinar, speaker Freda L. Thomas, MBA, who is the principal owner of a business management consulting firm, will help attendees focus on assessing or re-assessing the legal form of their company; developing a succession/business continuation plan; managing/controlling growth; and assembling a business team.

The webinar also will cover legal and corporate structures, certifications/licenses/permitting, establishing goals and objectives under a business plan, and issues related to company management, policies, procedures and staffing. In addition, Thomas will talk about the importance of choosing the right construction lawyer, accountant, banker, insurance agent and producer; how to identify them; why they are important; what role these individuals play and how they interrelate; what they expect from contractors; and how their involvement contributes to overall business success.

Learn more about the small and emerging contractor series on the webinar section of ABCs website. To register now for the "Business Planning and Management for Construction," click here.
