The "How To" of Finding Your Life Calling
| |
There is a decision point related to the pursuit of your calling. Should you or shouldn't you? But once you decide, "yes, there's more to life than just this", you need to plug into a process that will get you there. That is where The Retreat at Hidden Treasure (R@HT), a Colorado-based non-profit, comes in. R@HT offers LifePlan programs designed to help you discover and fulfill your life calling.
A LifePlan is a strategic plan for your life. It defines your personal mission or calling, a vision for a future where you walk out that calling and a transition action plan to help you get there from here. R@HT offers LifePlan development services in 2 or 3-day private retreats at their location in Colorado or on a 10-session phone coaching basis.
What are some of the top questions of people who want to discover and fulfill their calling - those wanting to embark on developing their personal or marriage LifePlans?

Greetings!
THE THING YOU "CAN'T not DO"!
What do Oprah and Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church (You know, the guy who hosted one of the presidential debates) have in common? For starters, they are hugely influencial in their spheres - I'm talking gargantuan! For another, they both are preaching about knowing and fulfilling your true calling (see the latest issue of O Magazine and Rick's Decade of Destiny web site). Hmmm. I call that a start of a trend - one agreed upon by both the religious and entertainment worlds. That doesn't happen too often!
Why is this happening? Maybe coincidence? Not likely. My point of view is that it is happening because of the economic recession and condition of our country at this point in time. People are fed up, stressed out and now realize there must be more to life than survival and paying the bills. Therefore, they are looking deep inside themselves to find their core values and true source of joy. They are looking to return to some kind of roots. Looking to spend their one lifetime in a more fulfilling and significant way - a way that isn't focused on or thwarted by the economic wind changes.
This issue of Strategic Living captures some key elements of finding your calling, destiny, purpose or mission. There's a "how to", a personal story and a down and dirty look at commitment - something you will need to actually walk out your calling.
In 2005, when asked why she wanted to become a life coach, Geri Swingle responded with "because it's the thing I can't not do!" Our passion as the founders of The Retreat at Hidden Treasure is helping you find the thing you can't not do! We couldn't be more excited about Rick and Oprah's current thrust, to have 2 powerful iconic figures give voice to our heart's song.
I developed this newsletter because I'm passionate about helping organizations and individuals a.) Understand their strengths b.) Have a vision and plan that maximizes their potential and c.) Align their resources in such a way they actually walk in their vision.
I hope you find this to be a helpful resource for your journey!

A Personal Story by Heidi Meares
I'm a 32 year old stay at home mom. There's a lot contained in that simple sentence. For starters, I'm no longer basking in the glow of possibilities that characterizes the twenties. I'm also no longer active in the marketplace. I'm a mother. That sentence may not describe you, and in fact you may not relate to it on any level. However, I bet there is a sentence with which many of you can relate: "I don't know what I'm doing!"
Obviously that's not in regards to life's daily duties. After all from the moment my eyes open and I hear the stirrings of my six month old, I know what I'm doing. Indeed I can barely see beyond the Sisyphean tasks that typify my days. No, what that sentence really means is I know that I know that there's this longing in me, so palpable, so tangible, so unrelenting. It's a longing for understanding, nay unquestionable conviction, of why God put me on this planet. It's a quest for place.

Skin in the Game
"The chicken is involved, but the pig is committed." That is an old fable often used to highlight the differences between "involvement" and "commitment".
The chicken, only providing eggs but then going about their chicken-business, symbolizes people involved in an endeavor. These people consult, give advice and are informed of progress. They make a contribution.
On the other hand, the pig is slaughtered, symbolizing people committed to an endeavor. These people are accountable for the outcome of a project. They make a substantial sacrifice.
What is the impact of this fable when trying to start or change a project, business or ministry?
