Leaving It All on the Field
Lacross Player

Coaches often tell their athletes, "Whether we win or lose, let's leave it all on the field today!" Within the last few years, we have come to realize exactly what those words mean.

In 2005, Geri and I had our Life Plans done with incredible results: A God-sized vision for our "second life."  But as we have learned over the past 5 years, walking out your Life Plan takes full commitment and many steps of faith.  For us, it has entailed moving cross-country and leaving all we've known for most our lives.

So, what does it take to walk out a God-given destiny?

Greetings!

GIVING THANKS.

As we approach the end of 2009, I'd like to take a few moments to be
thankful for a number of things:

Although it's been our toughest year ever being provision-poor, we have indeed been ministry-rich.

Our growing list of partners have been the breath of life to our vision.  Now, more than ever before, we understand what it means to give up self-reliance and openly expose our need for help and support.

Reflecting on the people we served this past year, who have gone through our Life Planning and Life Coaching processes, we stand amazed and very rewarded as we watch them embrace their uniqueness and be able to walk into the future with confidence!   What a privilege it is to have the front row seat we have as coaches and facilitators, watching the greatest event of all time: God's transformation work in the life of an individual!

I developed this newsletter because I'm passionate about helping organizations and individuals a.) Understand their strengths b.) Have a vision and plan that maximizes their potential and c.) Align their resources in such a way they actually walk in their vision.

I hope you find this to be a helpful resource for your journey!
Frustrated, Fragmented or Focused

Frustrated

In his book S.H.A.P.E., author Erik Rees categorizes people relative to their unique purpose as frustrated, fragmented or focused.  Some are frustrated and merely living a life of survival with no sense of their strengths or their mission in life.  Others are fragmented because they have some sense of their strengths and mission, but their time, talents and treasure are not allocated in alignment with what they know about their God-given wiring and purpose.  A small few are focused and are living life as it was meant to be lived: not only aware of their strengths and mission, but fully embracing both, with their decisions and resources reflecting their commitment to walk in their God-given destiny.

As Life Planners and Life Coaches, we work with people in all of these stages, recognizing they have different needs.

Weaning From Your Comfort Zone

Our comfort zone is that state of mind where we feel no anxiety; we're anxiety-neutral, if you will.  When we step outside our comfort zone, we feel stress.  Stress-induced adrenaline can enable us to raise our Plan Bperformance to new levels; it enables us to take risks and tackle new challenges.  On the other hand, stress caused by anxiety, our state of mind, or how we perceive a threat to our comfort zone can not only be unhealthy, but undermines our ability to move through the change that initially caused the stress.

When we experience change, either by our own initiation or when it is thrust upon us, we have our comfort zones threatened.  If we perceive the change as positive, our response is generally positive.  If negative, we initiate the energy-draining grief cycle.  And then, the fight really begins.

Sometimes change can be drastic, sudden.  Generally speaking, change happens over time.  In turn, change often requires leaving a comfort zone and can feel like a weaning process.  There's a loss of security, a loss of significance.  A loss.

What can be done to reduce the perceived loss associated with change?
