NEWS and EVENTS
It's full speed ahead at Creative Nonfiction this month:
We're busy putting the final touches on #40, our Animals issue, which is packed (really, it's a doozy!) with great new content. Stay tuned for more details and subscribe now to be among the first to see the issue.
For future issues we're still looking for more great suggestions. Have an idea for a literary timeline? An opinion on essential texts for readers and/or writers? An in-depth, working knowledge of a specific type of nonfiction? Pitch us your ideas! Creative Nonfiction is now accepting query letters for several sections of the magazine. Visit our website for complete section details and submission guidelines.
The nomination period for food blogs is now open! Thanksgiving is next week, after all. We're seeking narrative blog posts, published in 2010, to reprint in our upcoming Food issue. Nominate your favorite food blog now through November 29.
And it appears our new online classes are a hit. Both courses filled up so quickly that we've decided to open up new sections. If you tried to sign up and were told the class was full, please try again! Register for Basics in a Nutshell and Writing the Personal Essay in our online store now.
Attention all writing professors: CNF has joined CLMP's Lit Mag Adoption Program. This means that when you incorporate CNF into your class curriculum, your students are eligible for subsidized subscriptions (4-issues for $24!). Plus, each class will have the chance to chat one-on-one with a CNF editor. Learn more about the program and register your class here.
The weather's getting colder, the days are getting shorter, and it's time to let the sales begin! Browse all our holiday specials here, available now through Tuesday, December 14.

DISTRACTIONS: WHAT WE READ WHEN WE SHOULD BE WORKING.
READ: Get a sneak peek into CNF #39 with Peter Ginna's exploration of the foot-long subtitle, republished on his blog. George Bush released his memoir, Decision Points, to charges of plagiarism and laziness, reports The Huffington Post. Plus, James Frey is at it again: NY Magazine reports on his old rabble-rousing and his new "fiction factory," and The Chronicle of Higher Education blames MFA Programs for failing to make sure their students know better.
TALK: Inspired by The Rumpus Book Club and bolstered by their love for lit mags, HTML Giant launched a literary magazine club and spends this month discussing Issue Sixteen of The Collagist.
WATCH: Dinty W. Moore posts an animation exploring the oft-misundertood "creativity" of creative nonfiction.

CNF MENTORING PROGRAMS
CNF's mentoring programs have always offered writers of all levels one-on-one access to accomplished mentors (who, by the way, aren't just great writers, but experienced teachers and editors, too).
Now CNF is excited to offer two brand new, online classes that allow writers to enjoy collaboration with colleagues and receive professional feedback, starting in the new year. Due to overwhelming interest we've added new sections of each class, open now!
Basics in a Nutshell will introduce writers to the basics of creative nonfiction, exploring both the techniques used to gather information and the literary skills needed to turn bare facts into personal and compelling essays.
Writing the Personal Essay takes a close look at the writing and research skills needed to write a memoir or personal essay. We'll discuss how to best use essential literary elements such as detail, dialogue, structure, and description, as well as how to collect information through interviews, research, and other methods.
Visit our website for in-depth weekly course breakdowns.
