Engaging Men Digest - March 2011

Welcome to the February 2011 issue of the SATF's Engaging Men Digest!

In the last month our office has been buzzing with new staff members and interns that are bringing a lot of new energy and knowledge to our work in Oregon.  I hope this digest finds you all well and that you enjoy the news and resources that we have gathered here for you!

The News:

- The International Center for Research on Women has released Evolving Men: Initial ICRWResults from the International Men and Gender Equality Survey.  The report summarizes findings from their multi-national survey on a wide range of topics regarding men and gender equity.  You can read the report here

LLCThe Leadership Learning Community has released a new publication in their Leadership for a New Era Series"How to Develop and Support Leadership that Contributes to Racial Justice" carries important messages about ways to make sure we are doing racial justice work as we strive to prevent gendered violence.

-  This month I was introduced to another blog by a feminist man named Jeff, What Men Dare Do!.  Here are some of the entries from the blog that have really spoken to me:  "Being Unfeminist" , "Men Calling Themselves 'Feminist'" , and "Towards Positive Masculinities".

JBM
-  I am a little late coming to this, but the first issue of the Journal of Black Masculinity came out in the Fall of 2010.  The journal will, no doubt, include many articles that are relevant to the prevention of gendered violence and I look forward to reading future issues!

-  Melissa McEwan posted a two-part blog entry on Shakesville offering what she calls "helpful hints to privileged men who genuinely want advice about how to be more feminist-friendly dudes."  Check out the entries here: Part I

- Daniel José Older from the blog View fromDaniel Jose Older the Crossroad of Life & Death posted this tremendous piece on his experience of men's violence against women as an EMT: Beyond Manning Up

- Bill Patrick of bill's profeminist blog posted this great piece on patriarchy and the sexual abuse of boys: How Patriarchy Facilitates the Sexual Abuse of Boys
