New Year's Resolutions?

New Year's Resolutions are made and quickly forgotten.  Usually by the third week in January, most people have already abandon their goals.   After reading Wiring Yourself for Success and The Definitive Guide to Sticking to Your New Year's Resolutions, I have decided to do things a little differently this year.  I  picked one word that describes what I want to accomplish over the next  year.  After I had my word written down I  wrote down three ways to accomplish this word and three distractions to avoid in accomplishing this word.  By following this plan I hope to be able to meet my goal in the following ways:

1.  By only trying to accomplish one word I have not stretched myself so thin that I loose motivation.  I will have more interest in what I am doing and, therefore, will be better able to meet my goal.

2.  By knowing what will distract me I will be able to avoid those pitfalls and move closer to my goal.

3.  By choosing a real goal instead of a dream goal I will actually have something attainable to work towards.

What is your word for the New Year?

Is Your Website Client Friendly?

Have you looked at your company website lately?  Maybe you should.  Your website is sometimes the first thing a prospective client sees.  It is the perverbial first impression.  What does yours say?  Here are a few tips that will make your website client friendly.

1.  Avoid flash, pop-ups, anything gimmicky.  How do you feel when you first open a website and have things flashing in front of you that you did not ask to see?  The first thing I do is close that particular window.  If there are too many pop-ups, I will just close the website completely and go find another source.  Don't loose clients before they even see your website.

2.  Keep it simple.  Going along with #1 above, make sure your website is easy to read.  Don't use color boxes with a different color font.  It is too hard to read.  Make sure your fonts are large enough for your reader to see.  Be careful of your spacing across the page so your reader can see everything in one screen.

3.  Don't make your client click through a gazillion different screens before they find what they are looking for.  It is very time consuming and annoying to have to think about what you are doing.  You want to go to a website and instantly get your information.

4.  Content is extremely important.  Don't bore your client with lengthy descriptions and ads.  Post what is relevant and move on.  And remember to proofread.  There is nothing less professional than spelling errors on a website or other business literature.

5.  Make sure your contact information is very easy to find.  When a prospective client decides to take action, you want them to know where to go.  Make sure your company name, address, phone number, fax number, and any other information you deem necessary is readily available.

Take a look at your website.  Remember to look at it through the eyes of your prospective client.  If a set of fresh eyes would be a help, consider enlisting the services of a Virtual Assistant.

Who are you following on Twitter?

I love Twitter and think it is a great business tool.  By following certain people, you can gain new clients, build relationships, keep an eye on your competitors and obtain information on new products and services by reading what other people post.  But if you have been on Twitter for any length of time, it can be quite confusing to keep tract of who you are following and who is following you.  One way to keep it all straight and not forget anyone important is by going to www.friendorfollow.com.  By entering your Twitter username, friendorfollow will show you who you are following that is not following you back, and vice versa.  What a great way to stay connected.

As I close out my first full year in business, I want to thank you for your support.
This has been a wonderful year and I have met so many great people.  Here's to many more years to come.
