From the Mayor's Desk...

November marks the beginning of the holiday season -- that warm and festive time of year when we enjoy spending quality time with our loved ones. Come out and have fun at "Holiday by the Bay" at Ludovici Park on Saturday, Dec. 3. The holidays also spark a sense of gratitude and prompt us to help others. Join us again this this year as we coordinate our Annual Holiday Food Drive -- and make a huge difference for those less fortunate. And, don't wait to start your holiday shopping: check out the DARE Arts & Crafts Fair at Coral Reef Park this Saturday. In closing, I would like to extend warm holiday wishes to all Palmetto Bay residents. Please have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Santa Visits Annual Holiday by the Bay Invitations are now in the mail for residents to attend the "Holiday by the Bay," Dec. 3 (4-9pm), at Ludovici Park. This bayside library park, home to the Edward & Arlene Feller Amphitheater, will be transformed into a winter wonderland, replete with musical performances, midway rides, arts & crafts booths, and food vendors. There will also be a special appearance by Santa Claus -- so be sure to take time to get your photo with the big guy this year. Families will also have an opportunity to make their own holiday ornaments, write letters to Santa, and shop around at the Holiday Bazaar -- all right on the grounds of Ludovici Park. For information, contact Mary Fernandez or call 305-721-0033. Be sure to visit the Village website for additional information and links to our community sponsors. EVENT DETAILS: When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 4pm-9pm Where: Ludovici Park, 17641 Old Cutler Road, Palmetto Bay Sponsors: TotalBank, South Motors Honda, County Commissioner-District 8 Lynda Bell, and C3TS Engineering/Architecture. |
Channel 77 is Now on Menu of Govt' Access The window of access to local government is now wide open with the addition of Comcast Channel 77 -- Palmetto Bay's new government access channel. The Regular Council Meeting of Nov. 7 was the first public meeting to be broadcast within our local coverage area (defined by the Village borders). This exciting new feature complements several other tools of transparency recently put in place by the Village, including live-streaming video, video on-demand, and a Village website-based check register of administrative transactions -- all for public viewing. "The evolution of our young Village continues," said Manager Ron Williams. "The wide range of communications programs we now offer serves to enhance public understanding of the daily workings of our local government, and encourages public participation in the process. It is truly a win-win for our community." These new communications channels join the standard fare on our menu of government access: Gov-QA, duty phone, Village website, electronic newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Public Workshops, and if nothing else call us or just drop by! |
D.A.R.E. Fundraiser Set for Saturday Every year, hundreds of school children around the Village benefit from DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. DARE is a Village Police-led series of classroom lessons that teach children (K-12) how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. Please support this amazing program by joining us at Saturday's fundraiser in support of the DARE Program. The event is receiving widespread radio publicity by in-kind-sponsor Majic 102.7, and will feature more than 50 arts & crafts vendors. Proceeds from vendor registration fees go toward the purchase of student workbooks and diplomas. EVENT DETAILS:
