Special Election
A "mail-in" election takes place June 25, asking residents to allow the Village to remove a section of its Charter regarding the Municipal Service Trust Fund payments. If voter approved, $1.7 in annual "mitigation" payments to the county will cease once and for all!
SO VOTE "YES"
Look for election info mailed to your home in early June.

Conserve
Water!
It's been the driest season on record and with the days getting longer and hotter, evaporation rates are on the rise. Please remember, year-round water restrictions are still in place in Miami-Dade.

 Earth Week
This year's Village-wide Earth Week celebration was a resounding success, due to the support and dedication of of several resident volunteers and Village staff. Please see the current edition of Palmetto Bay News for a "Special Thanks" from Mayor Flinn.

Green Light Given to Hire   Red-Light Camera Firm
Several "quality of life" projects were approved at the May 4 Council meeting. The Council gave a green light for the Village to obtain services of a firm to provide a Traffic Camera Safety Program. This is a first step following last month's approval of an Ordinance allowing the use of red-light camera technology throughout the Village to assist with enforcement of red-light violations. In an effort to curtail speeding in the Village, Traffic-Calming Devices were approved for installation at SW 140 St., SW 78 Ct., SW 78 Ave., SW 74 Ave., and SW 74 Ct. Realignment of the intersection of SW 139 Ter. and SW 140 Dr. was also funded. Drainage-Improvement work was authorized to begin at SW 84 Ave. from SW 168 St. to SW 170 Ter.; SW 179 Ter. from SW 77 Ave. to East Terminus; SW 141 Ter. in the SW 79 block; SW 174 St. from 92 Ct. to SW 92 Ave.; SW 80 Ave. from SW 144 St. to SW 145 St.
Design-Build Teams for Municipal Center
Also at the May 4 Council meeting, Village Manager Ron Williams reported that RFP 2009-02 Design-Build Services for the Future Municipal Center was published to solicit design-build teams for the future Village Hall facility. The first phase of the project involves the preparation of a space plan analysis, followed by the schematic design, design development, construction, and construction-management phases. Firms are required to have prior experience building governmental or municipal facilities. Proposals are due June 2.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. The Village's fifth municipal park, Ludovici Park is located at the site of the new Palmetto Bay Branch Library & Community Room, 17641 Old Cutler Road. Flipse homeHistoric Place of the Month...
Flipse/O'Donnell Home once featured on 'This Old House'
Palmetto Bay is home to one of the area's most remarkable examples of Mediterranean Revival style. The Flipse/O'Donnell House is located on the south side of Coral Reef Dr., in what is now the Southwood neighborhood. The home, which also offers Mission style influences, was built in 1917 by Louis Flipse, an agricultural teacher from Milwaukee who came to Homestead in 1909. He commissioned Miami architect Henry La Pointe to design the home, and Dr. David Fairchild to design a pond, cascading waterfall, and the gardens that originally surrounded the property. The O'Donnell's purchased the residence and avocado groves in 1950. The home has been featured on the TV show, "This Old House." Learn more about this home on the Historic Preservation page of the Village web site -- and review the County's Historic Preservation Board report designating this home as a historic place.
