Our Mission
WE CARE about older adults, their quality of life, independence and continuing potential
WE BUILD programs, services and relationships to meet the needs of this growing population
WE SERVE the community by empowering seniors, assisting families and enhancing lives. |
One thing that our seniors teach us is to enjoy the little things in life...
someday you will realize they were the big things. |
TOPS Transportation
We provide transportation
services to qualifying seniors for medical appointments. For elderly seniors and those with significant vision or other physical limitations, the service can include a 1-on-1 service feature, whereby the senior is not only transported to the appointment, but has someone stay with them to assist with note taking, paperwork and so forth. The 1-on-1 feature is currently not available for seniors who need an electric wheelchair lift.
Call our TOPS (Transportation Options Program for Seniors) Program Manager for details.

Staff News
Congratulations to Donna McKinney, Development Director, for graduating from the Leadership North Fulton program through the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
And to our Care Management team - Tanya Morris, supervisor, and Colleen Davis, Candace Dubrof and Willi McDowell, for completing the Boston University Certificate in Care Management.
The program keeps our care management team current with the latest developments in care management and care coordination.
The passage of the healthcare reform makes this certificate a vital resource for social workers and other health and social service practitioners. Providing coordinated care and care management are becoming increasingly important in connecting older adults to needed services and assisting them in remaining independent.
They make us all proud! |

Combined Federal Campaign
Federal employees can support Senior Services North Fulton, CFC #30561, in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is the largest annual workplace campaign, raising millions of dollars each year for thousands of non-profits who help so many people in need of assistance. The CFC is a wonderful way for federal workers to support older adults and their families who need Meals on Wheels, transportation, or supportive in-home services such as personal care assistance, homemaker services and respite. All CFC contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. |

Greetings!
Transportation is in the news throughout the region as we prepare to go to the polls in July to vote on the Transportation-SPLOST referendum. Here in North Fulton, transportation is an ongoing challenge and frustration for older adults.
Our TOPS medical transportation program is meeting the need for trips to health care appointments, and we are grateful for new funding from the City of Roswell, The Sandy Springs Society, Catholic Foundation of North Georgia and Fulton County Housing and Human Services.
In addition, we are very pleased to report that in the fall we will be launching our Transportation Voucher Program for Older Adults with Disabilities, which will expand our transportation program beyond medical appointments. This is being made possible by a grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission as part of the Federal Transit Administration's New Freedom program. We will provide vouchers to seniors for transportation for shopping, pharmacy visits, errands and social outings. Vouchers are a cost effective and innovative way to improve access to transportation services.
Thank you to all our grantors for joining with Senior Services North Fulton to improve the lives of seniors in our community.
We hope you have an enjoyable summer.
Carrie Bellware, Executive Director |
March for Meals Grant Received
Meals on Wheels Association of America awarded Senior Services North Fulton a grant for our successful implementation of the March for Meals awareness campaign. This, along with the wonderful support we received from Vino 100, Altobeli's, Sweet Tomatoes, local Mayors and community members will help us to reach the goal of ending senior hunger by 2020! |
Thanks to Humana MarketPOINT
On Thursday, May10th representatives from Humana MarketPOINT graciously hosted an ice cream social for seniors at our Crabapple Senior Center. The celebration was in conjunction with Humana's generous
donation of a freezer to the center. The freezer will be used to store various food items at the center, most importantly, meals for the agency's Meals on Wheels program. |
89 Years Young and Active
On June 10th Crabapple Senior Center participant Isabelle Flax turned 89 years old. She has been a regular attendant at the center for the past 10 years.
She enjoys the center for socialization, being with the friends she has made, and all her favorite activities including bingo, cards and exercise.
Isabelle says that transportation to the center is "invaluable, since I no longer drive." She also enjoys the daily hot, wholesome meals served at the center. "This is my big meal of the day, and then I am free to enjoy a snack in the evening, alleviating the stress of having to cook dinner."
When asked the secret to her longevity... A smile appeared on her face as she admitted, "The challenges in my life have kept me active and focused." |
Gratitude to Reckitt Benckiser for Cleaning Supply Donation
Reckitt-Benckiser, Inc., located in Pendergrass, Georgia, donated 126 cases of cleaning supplies for Senior Services' clients. Clients who receive homemaker services must supply the cleaning products, which can be costly, so the donation is a tremendous help!

And a big thanks to Don Davis from Five Star Transportation and our own Senior Services' volunteers. Through their combined efforts we were able to pick up the supplies in Pendergrass and transport them to the storage room in the Roswell Senior Center.

IBM Volunteers Pack Supplies
On June 21st, eleven dynamic IBM volunteers completed the final step of Senior Services' cleaning supply project.

The volunteers assembled 140 cleaning supply kits from the cleaning supplies donated by Reckitt Benckiser. The kits are a tremendous help to our clients that receive in-home services, enabling them to maintain their independence. |
Volunteer Corner
Volunteer Tea, Talk and Training
Close to forty volunteers attended the group training session that was held at the Crabapple Senior Center on April 24th. Board Chair, Bonnie Sammons was on hand to greet and thank volunteers for their service. A representative from Open Hand shared food safety information, and Volunteer Manager, Heidi Sowder, reviewed agency volunteer policies while Home Delivered Meals Coordinator, Jill Baker, provided Meals on Wheels updates.

Volunteers were also presented with an overview of the agency by Executive Director, Carrie Bellware. The session was a great opportunity for information exchange between volunteers and Senior Services' staff. |
Arthritis Walking Program at Sandy SpringsSenior Services North Fulton, in partnership with The Arthritis Foundation, held its first "Walk with Ease" program at our Sandy Springs Neighborhood Center location this past spring. This is a six week program that includes walking, support, educational information and tools to help you succeed with your exercise program. It is designed for people with arthritis and other chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. The program has shown that through walking you can: - Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
- Increase balance, strength and walking pace
- Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
- Improve overall health
We will be starting a new session in the fall and need volunteers that would be interested in becoming exercise instructors. If you are interested, please contact Lou Ann Kraus 770-993-1906 for more information. |
