Patients may postpone visits ...
Just don't take it lying down. |
A nationally representative survey of 1,000 adults showed that recession-related financial problems have prompted 36% of U.S. citizens to cut back on doctor visits.
The study showed that 63% of respondents have foregone visits to the dentist, whereas 59% and 52% have done the same for primary care physicians and eye doctors, respectively. Only 8% claimed they hadn't changed their routine health-maintenance schedules at all.
Sponsored by the American Optometric Association, the study raises concerns that delaying health care visits could lead to additional health problems and, in the longer run, end up being more expensive.
A recession often leads to an overabundance of caution, leading people to reduce their marketing activities. This is usually a mistake, since companies that advertise tend to retain more business and are quicker to rebound and prosper when the economy turns the corner.
Instead of shelving your marketing program or cutting back on it, there are many opportunities today to market more efficiently than ever before, possibly allowing you to attract more of the people you want for less than you're spending now.
