Resolve to drive your business in 2010

With the new year comes the typical personal resolutions.  Excercise more. Eat healthier. Visit Italy.
 
But what about your business resolutions?  Many small and mid-size businesses are "too busy to plan" and think they are successful enough as it is, just keeping up with what they already have.
 
If that sounds familiar, your business may be driving you, not vice versa.  Ask yourself:
  • Are there any slow seasons, slow months or even slow times of the day you'd like to fill in? 
  • Are there any services or procedures that are more profitable that you'd like to provide more of? 
  • Are there certain age groups or types of people you'd like to attract, as your existing customers get older? 
  • Can you reduce staff time on the phones by providing information, forms and services online?
Start with a checklist:
 
Is this the year you build a Website? This should be the cornerstone of your communications program.
 
If you have a Website, can it work better and harder for you?  Is it updated regularly?  Do you know how many people it attracts?  Are they the prospects you want to attract?  And do you have a way to convert them from prospects into customers?
 
If you advertise, is your program as efficient and as effective as it could be?  Are you using the best choice of media? 
 
Are you up on the newest ways to identify prospects using paid search, email marketing, social media and other online marketing strategies?
