Clergy Laity 2009 Meeting Highlights
-repeated for new subscribers to enjoy
- Medically Fragile Children -- MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) playground project for Medically Fragile Children has been halted due to budget cuts and they have asked us to consider applying our donation toward their " A Place to Pray" area which will be in the new chapel building. The money given toward this project was as follows: $22,500 from National Philoptochos (CMF), $8,796.20 from chapter donations for centerpieces and $1,920 from art auction at the 2007 Clergy Laity. By unanimous vote the general assembly moved to redirect the total playground funds of $33,216.20 to the Place to Pray in the new chapel of the MUSC Hospital.
- The White Dove funds will be hereto redirected to the Website and eCommunications Committee and will work towards enhanced Philoptochos communications throughout the Metropolis. Stay tuned for some exciting newsletters and our new website this fall.
- Disaster Relief Fund -- Over $1.3 million was distributed through this program and National Philoptochos has since adopted a National Disaster Response Board of which Dee Nicolaou is the chairperson. IOCC, National Philoptochos and the Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos will coordinate efforts to establish Disaster Response Centers in our Metropolis. The Disaster Response Plan is being formulated and will be presented to your parishes and chapters.
- His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios has requested that we raise
$25,000 in 5 years from all Metropolis chapters to build a church in Cameroon, Africa. The General Assembly delegates and board members embraced the project and voted to go forward.
- Organ Donor Awareness Program is being reintroduced in light of the late Archbishop Christodoulos' recent experience at the Miami Transplant Institute. The purpose is to inform chapters of organ donation and does not solicit funds nor obligate anyone to become an organ donor. Nicky Psaltis gave an inspiring presentation on how her father's organ transplant 15 years ago saved his life and touched their family.
- Agape Celebrations are to be planned in each Conference during the upcoming ecclesiastical year.
- Dynamic Leadership & Grants Development Strategies was the topic of Saturday's workshop and was led by Evelyn Ploumis-Devick, Ph.D. This was a highly motivational and educational presentation on how to build successful and sustainable programs. We all came away inspired in our efforts!

Ask your representive delegates for more information on these meeting highlights. Also, start thinking about who will be your 2010 delegates for the National Philoptochos Conference. It will be held in Atlanta, Georgia over the 4th of July holiday, 2010. |

| Dormition of the Holy Theotokos |
|
"Cry out, O David: what is this present feast? 'Christ' said he, 'has translated into the heavenly mansions her who bore Him without seed, of whom I sang in the book of Psalms, calling her daughter, child of God, and Virgin. Therefore, mothers and daughters and brides of Christ, rejoice and cry: Hail, thou who art translated into the heavenly Kingdom.'
