Library Vote, Tuesday, June 5

Just a reminder that the annual Library vote will occur this Tuesday evening, June 5, immediately following the 7 p.m. annual meeting. There will be two items on the ballot; the operating budget proposal for 2012-2013, and the election to fill two Trustee vacancies. Any Marlboro School District resident who has lived in the district for at least 30 days prior to the election date, is18 years of age or older, and is a U.S. citizen, is eligible to vote. The Library ceases operation at 8:30 p.m. but the polls stay open until 9 p.m.

Candidates on the ballot for Board positions are Marian Baldwin and Denise Garofalo. The Board is propsing a 1.9 % increase, or $15,898, of last year's $839,864 budget. The increase is tied to meeting delivery fees of library materials, staff expenses, increasing the percentage of ebooks and DVDs, and updating our nonfiction collection beginning with our outdated medical materials.

The past year included many milestones including the recognition of the Library's 100th year and the retirement of our beloved Children's Program Director, Susan Tumminia. As the Library enters its next century of operation, we strive to meet the needs and expectations of the school district community.
