Saturday, December 3rd, will be a special day as we celebrate 100 years of service to the community. All local residents are invited to attend the Library's Centennial Party.
Among other events, there will be a light dinner buffet, holiday wreath auction, and a special 1911 Razzmatazz Ragtime Revue performance. The Library is extending the RSVP date until Wednesday, November 30th. For planning purposes, please call 236-7272, ext. 14, ASAP to let us know if you're coming. The snow date is Sunday, December 4th.

Many thanks to Assistant Director Christina Jennerich and the Friends of the Library for their hard work in making this celebration possible! Details follow.

Come help us celebrate!

Library Birthday Party for Children Starts at 1 p.m.

The children of the district will celebrate in their own way from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a birthday cake, balloons, special visits from Clifford, the Big Red Dog and Max (of Max & Ruby fame), and more!

Costumes Optional

The Library actually came into being on December 9, 1911, but we chose to celebrate on a Saturday to accommodate more people. If you get into the spirit of history on parade, you are encouraged to wear a costume from any period in the 20th century and enter the "Through the Decades" costume raffle that evening. You may win a Kindle ebook reader!

Live Music!
To create that 1911 atmosphere, we've invited the Razzmatazz Ragtime Revue to perform in the evening.

The great pianist, singer, and music historian Dr. Peter Muir will entertain with a choice selection of hits from the early 20th century, from the toe-tapping rags of Scott Joplin to the majesty of the blues - and everything in between.

Contest Winners Announced

After the performance, we will enjoy cake and have a toast to the Library. Contest winners will be announced, including the winner of a Nook for the 100 Books for 100 Years contest (please make sure you submit your receipts by November 30th!) and a Kindle for the "Through the Decades" costume raffle, so remember to come dressed in a decade-specific costume or article of clothing so that you will be entered to win.

Historic Exhibits
During the party, feel free to browse Emily Amodeo's exhibit detailing the history of the Library in the main lobby, turn-of-the-century photos in the community room curated by Joanne Pagnotta in 2004, and a period "library room" exhibit just outside the community room designed by Children's Program Coordinator Susan Tumminia.
Holiday Wreath Silent Auction

The Friends of the Library will be holding a silent auction for handcrafted holiday wreaths in the community room throughout the day. So whether you attend the Library birthday party for children earlier in the day or the evening party, please be sure to bid on a wreath. Wreath makers are still being sought -please call Cheryl ASAP at 236-7987. There is also a raffle for a beautiful Swedish afghan hand-woven by Joan Holt on display in the Library. Get your tickets for what would be a truly great holiday gift! Your contributions help support the Friends of the Library.
