Summer is here and at the Library that means Book Barn season, Miss Susan's summer reading camps, and Sunday closings. July marks the beginning of our fiscal year, and I want to thank those who voted to support the Library's mission at last month's annual meeting. Thanks to Anita Jean McMonigle for once again donating the proceeds of her troupe's dance recital, and to the Friends of the Library for participating in the Town's annual Memorial Day Parade. Summer is also a time for beach reading, so stop by and pick up a blockbuster or two. We're celebrating reading and our centennial through our 100 Years - 100 Books program (details below).

Happy reading,

James B. Cosgrove,
Director

Book Barn Volunteers Needed

The Friends of the Library are looking for volunteers to work at the Book Barn when it's open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month through October. The hours are 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. (as long as there is no rain). The barn has been reorganized and filled with newer titles that were donated to the Library, and the moldy oldies have disappeared. Interested volunteers can call  Cheryl Werba at 236-7987.

Children's Summer Camps & Reading Buddies Begin

If you have registered your children for Cooking Camp or for the Reading Buddies program, don't forget that they begin on Tuesday, July 5th! If you have registered for Reading Buddies, Miss Susan will be contacting you soon to inform you of your specific time slot. Watch the website for updates, articles, pictures, and videos. The schedule for the camps and events is listed on the calendar on the website main page.

Large Print Secret

Please browse the Library's Large Print book section, which doesn't get much traffic because it's hidden in the corner by the Local History section. It has been weeded and updated with many new titles by popular authors, making it one the Library's best kept secrets. Through a buying plan we get six new LP titles every month!  If you don't find what you're looking for, visit the online catalog and request a title.

100 Years - 100 Books

Here's a fun way to help us celebrate the Library's 100th year of service over the summer:  Families are encouraged to read 100 books before our open house in December. Those families who meet the challenge (or come close) will be eligible for a drawing with fabulous prizes. Register at the front desk and start saving your checkout receipts.

The Social Network

In addition to this email newsletter, you can also follow the Library on Facebook (Marlboro Free Library) and Twitter (#MarlboroLibrary). Our webpage and the library catalog have also been mobilized for viewing on smartphones, and we're adding QR codes to our new print materials. We ask for your patience as we tweak the design of the Library webpage to improve its appearance and efficiency. Any ideas or requests about the website can be sent to sscott@marlborolibrary.org

Thank you!
