Dear Friends,

The weather shifted abruptly this spring with April showers continuing through May and leading us right into high summer humidity! Activity continues around the Library as we celebrate the Library centennial. Miss Susan's summer reading camps are filling up and the Library annual meeting on Tuesday, June 7 approaches quickly. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. followed immediately by voting and the polls close at 9 p.m. The Friends are looking for volunteers to ride in our Memorial Day float and applications for the fall Library Page position are now available at the front desk.  Students 14 years and up are invited to apply. The Book Club will hold its annual dinner meeting in June, where they will choose a "summer read," and discuss selections for the fall.  Sue Scott is repeating her popular tech classes for adults. See details below for what else is happening.

Happy Summer,

James B. Cosgrove,

Book Barn open Saturday, May 28

The Friends of the Library Book Barn will be open this Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. (as long as there is no rain). The barn has been re-organized and filled with newer titles that were donated to the Library and the moldy oldies have disappeared. The barn will be open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays through October.

If you know of anyone who would like to join the Friends in the Memorial Day parade call Cheryl Werba at 236-7987.

Holiday Closings and Summer Hours

The Library will be closed on Sunday, May 29 for the Memorial Day parade and on Monday, May 30 for the legal holiday. Beginning on Father's Day, June 19, the Library will be closed on Sundays through the summer. The Library will recommence Sunday hours following the Labor Day weekend.
This year's Memorial Day parade theme is the commemoration of the 150 year anniversary of the start of the American Civil War. The Library float will also acknowledge our beginnings in 1911. The Library lobby features a display with historic photos and stories about the Library.

100 Years - 100 Books

Here's a fun way to help us celebrate the Library's 100th year of service over the summer.  Families are encouraged to read 100 books before our open house in December. Those families who meet the challenge (or come close) will be eligible for a drawing with fabulous prizes. Register at the front desk and start saving your checkout receipts. We're promoting reading so DVDs don't count.

The Social Network

In addition to this email newsletter, you can also follow the Library on Facebook (Marlboro Free Library) and Twitter (MarlboroLibrary). We also have three blogs on our webpage where you can find interesting information about local history, games & technology, and miscellaneous activities. Our webpage and the library catalog has also been mobilized for viewing on smartphones and we're adding QR codes to our new print materials. We are currently tweaking the design of the webpage to improve it's appearance and efficiency so we ask for your patience. Thank you!
