Dear Friends,

Our recent Open House was a smashing success!
About 400 people of all ages visited the Library last Saturday. Linda Martuscello was the lucky winner of the Nook e-reader raffle. The Friends of the Library canvas tote bag went to second prize winner Peter Hoffmann, and the third prize of a Burleigh map of Marlborough in1891 was won by Robin Amer. Curious George, The Man is the Yellow Hat and Cookie Mouse were all welcomed enthusiastically as was Matoaka Little Eagle who demonstrated Native American music and dance. Photos and video from the event are viewable on the Library website. Over 50 people visited our information stations to learn about online knowledge products, the website, how to optimize the catalog, downloadable audiobooks, local history and more.

Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the Library so we are planning our next big event for that occasion.
Happy Thanksgiving,

James B. Cosgrove

Holiday Wreath Auction this Saturday
The annual auction of handmade holiday wreaths will be held at the Benmarl winery in Marlboro this Saturday evening. Viewing of the wreaths, which were all hand-fashioned by talented local crafters, will take place at 6 p.m. and the auction will start at 7 p.m. sharp.  Master of Ceremonies will again be professional auctioneer Frank Pietrzak. There will be free refreshments as well as glasses and bottles of Benmarl wine for sale. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marlboro Free Library as a year-end fundraiser.
Don't buy a Kindle...

...if you're hoping to borrow free e-books from the Library. The Kindle e-reader from Amazon.com is the only device known to be incompatible with library provided e-books. There are many devices available and we don't endorse one over the other, but we want you to know that the Kindle will not read e-books that the library owns.
E-book titles are available now in the library catalog but there is some software needed to make your device work with Overdrive. For assistance, make an appointment with Library staff.  Overdrive is the same company that loans downloadable audiobooks, but at this point, the Library's Audiobook Download Station doesn't work for downloading e-books.
Presents for Patients.

The Library remains a drop-off point for "Presents for Patients" a program of the Mental Health Association of Ulster County. Recipients are Ulster County residents at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center who are without family, or are separated from loved ones, during the holidays. Please bring a new, unwrapped gift to the library from now until Friday, December 10. Gift suggestions include "something to wear" (large and extra large items preferred) and "something to do" (greeting cards, envelopes, postage stamps, games, puzzles, playing cards, model kits, and books).

Soaps, deodorants, candy, packaged cookies and chewing gum are also acceptable. Please, no used items. Gifts should be unwrapped so M.H.A. staff can address individual patient needs.
