Museum Day
If you're looking for good, educational fun on the cheap, it doesn't get any cheaper than free. Across the nation, more than 1,300 museums will offer free admission on Saturday, September 25 to celebrate the sixth annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day.

Free Family Pass to the Children's Museum in Poughkeepsie
The Library owns a free family pass to the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum in Poughkeepsie. A family of up to six persons (including grandparents) are eligible to use the pass for one day. Once borrowed on a library card, the pass must be returned to the Library within three days so a late fee is not imposed. All Marlboro Free Library cardholders with a clean library card record are eligible to use the pass. |
The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library invite the public to visit the Book Barn on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for cider, snacks and special sales. Rain date will be Oct. 23. The Book Barn season ends in October and reopens in May.

Art from the Heart Exhibition
Local artists who paint together regularly at the Library as "Art from the Heart" will be exhibiting new work in the Community Room from October 1 to November 9. Some of the artists include Rosalie Berletti, Jackie Canosa, Elina Cordani, Pietro Cordani, Lynn DiBlanca, Denise Heude, Ardis Ketterer, Lena Occhi, Barbara Stupple, Mary Stupple, Josephine Tossaba, and Marge Wrage. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work with them during a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 23. |
AARP '55 Alive' Driving Class
Instructor Karen Kheil will be offering a class on Saturday, October 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $14 per-person registration fee for non-AARP members must be pre-paid in person at the library. AARP members pay $12 and must put their membership numbers on their checks. No reservations will be taken over the phone. Payment will be accepted by CHECK ONLY made payable to "AARP." Please bring a lunch and your driver's license with you to class. Class size is limited to 35 participants.

Dear Friends,
We received over 75 responses to last spring's online survey and we listened to you! This is the busiest fall ever at the Library with a variety of programs and services that we hope will appeal. We're offering computer classes on a variety of subjects and promoting reading this fall. Book Club starts on Sept. 29, Miss Susan leads a book club for 4th grade and up students, and Sue Scott is leading a fun poster promotion. The Friends are even holding a Book Barn open house in October. The arts are featured, too, with an upcoming art exhibit, a family pass to the Children's Museum in Poughkeepsie available for loan, and news of the Smithsonian's "Museum Day" on Sept. 25 featuring free tickets to local sites including the Gomez Mill House, Historic Huguenot Street, The Children's Museum and DIA Beacon. Stay tuned for information on our big Library Open House on November 13 featuring entertainment and tours of Library services. |

Doggie Day Afternoon October 2nd, 1 - 2:30
Last day to call and sign up is this Thursday, Sept. 23!
Every dog has his day, and on Saturday, October 2 local Marlborough pooches and the humans who love them will have theirs. There will be a number of canine activities including a dress up contest with prizes for the Cutest, High Fashion Diva, and Most Original. Staff from the Middlehope Veterinary Hospital will be visiting and there will be information about dog rescue programs. Storybooks will also be available for little ones to read to quiet pups. Games like Food Factor, Musical Mats, Canine Karaoke, Bone Hunt will be available and there will be a Blessing of the dogs

Computer Class series start Thursday, September 23rd
Library staff will be leading classes in their areas of expertise designed to demonstrate and give hands-on experience to the curious on a number of online subjects. Participants are expected to know how to use a computer. Classes are aimed at adults and will be free of charge. The six-week course will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Individuals are invited to attend any or all of the classes. Pre-registration is required for planning purposes. Attendees can register at the front desk or by calling 236-7272, ext. 14. The Library's summer reading team, the Marlboro Mavericks finished 6th in a field of 23 libraries participating in the in 7th annual Battle of the Books held this year at the Hudson Junior/Senior High School in Hudson, New York on Saturday, Sept. 11. This was only the second year that Marlboro fielded a team. The Mavericks defeated competitors from the Red Hook and Kent libraries and were eliminated in a close match by the Heermance Memorial Library team from Coxsackie. Howland Public Library's Beacon Bees placed first. Our team's motto is "wait until next year." |
