Dear Fans,

We received over 75 responses to last spring's online survey and we are busy formulating programs for the year in areas of majority interest. Our print newsletter will be bulk-mailed later this month and it will have in-depth coverage on happenings at the Library in September and October. Of course, subscribers to this email newsletter and viewers of our webpage will always get first notice.

Another improvement has been made to the online library catalog allowing borrowers with a popular book request to keep their place in line. There's still time for this summer's "beach read" for the Library's Book Club. The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library put out the welcome mat for new members this month. The Dutchess Arts Council has chosen us as a meeting place for artists and cultural organizations to get assistance with their grant applications. We are also excited about loaning a free family pass to the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum.  Read below for details on all of these items.
Summer on,

Imagine that you have placed a request or "hold" on the popular title The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and you are waiting WEEKS for your turn to borrow it. Just when your name is about to rise to the top of the waiting list, you go on vacation and lose your spot!! Thanks to an upgrade to the catalog, that frustrating scenario can be avoided by putting a "freeze" on your hold. Click on the Library Catalog, log in and view your requests. At that point you can freeze (or unfreeze) selected titles you have on hold. Items that are currently available, or already on their way, or waiting to be picked up, cannot be frozen.

Pick up a "Freeze Your Requests" bookmark at the Library that has step-by-step instructions. Staff are available to teach you how to log into your online library card account.

This Summer's Book Club title

Join the Library Book Club that meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the library community room. The group will be discussing Colm Toibin's novel Brooklyn. on Wednesday evening, September 29. Ellis Lacey, a bookkeeper in post-World War II Ireland, seeks a fresh start personally and professionally in Brooklyn, N.Y. She finds a job and attends Brooklyn College. Then one day at a parish dance, she meets Tony, a blue-eyed, blond Italian who sweeps her off her feet. She's contemplating where the relationship is going when she is beckoned to return to Ireland.
