Dear Friends,
September brings changes as the Library will be closed for at least four days (Sept. 14 - 17) while books and furniture are moved to make room for colorful new carpet tiles throughout the building. We're going to take this opportunity to rearrange some spaces including the children's area. Weeding is in store for the music CDs, children's VCR films will be replaced with DVDs, and we're going to interfile the reference books with our circulating non-fiction to make more space for people. The Library will return to a 7-day-a-week schedule beginning Monday, Sept. 21. For more Library news, see below. |

Fall Children's Program Registration
Sunday, Sept. 13, 1:30 p.m.
Signups for pre-school and after-school programs will be held on a weekend day for the first time in response to parents' requests for greater availibility. The Library will be closed that day for all other business. Parents are asked to enter the building at the north entrance, where they will be given a number for first-come, first-served service. |

Change your Pickup Location before closure
While the Library is closed for renovations, borrowers who are requesting items from other libraries via Request-A-Title may want to temporarily change the pickup location. When placing a hold using the online catalog, you will be required to choose a "Pickup Location." Choose a nearby library such as Milton, Plattekill or Highland. If you work in Dutchess, Putnam, Greene, or Columbia counties, consider picking up your "holds" from a library near your workplace until we re-open. |

Online Reference
For three of the four days (Sept. 14 - 16) that the Library is closed, reference staff will be on the other end of the online "widget" Meebo located on the Library website (it looks similar to the above image). Just type in your question from your computer or handheld device and we'll do our best to answer your question. A subscription to Meebo is not necessary to use the service. Feel free to also call us, at 236-7272 ext. 14. |

The lease ran out on our old computers that ran Windows XP/MS Office 2003. The computers that replaced them run Windows Vista/MS Office 2007 and are equipped with media readers that can read 9 varieties of memory cards that exchange data, photos, games, and music between mobile phones, computers, laptops, cameras, PDAs and other devices. We offer flash drives and blank CDs for sale so people can download their information (data saved to the computers is lost at the end of each day). We also have headphones for sale. Tech librarian Sue Scott is available to assist you with any tech questions, so call her to arrange a one-on-one tutorial at 236-7272 ext. 15.

Kids' Port added to Library website
Kids' Port is a new website designed by librarians in the Mid-Hudson Library System for children from preschool to age 10 and their parents. Have fun playing the games, finding great books, and much more. As always, parents are encouraged to explore the Internet with their children to find sites appropriate for their reading and maturity levels. This website project was made possible with legislative funding secured by State Senator Vincent L. Leibell. | |
