Colorado Missions Offering Celebration
| |
It is time to prepare for this year's CELEBRATION of the Nicy Murphy Colorado Missions Offering and Week of Prayer
I use the word "celebration" because this is a very special year for our offering. This year Nicy Murphy celebrates her 100th birthday and we want all Colorado Baptists to celebrate with her. It's my desire that all our members have the opportunity hear the impact this single woman has had and continues to have on our state and celebrate her life. Not only is she a great missionary she is a gifted writer. Much of this year's promotion will center on Nicy's definition of Colorado Missions: "It is ministering to souls who live in the midst of mountain grandeur, but who never lift their "eyes unto the hills" from whence their help might come; who enjoy God's placid lakes, tumbling streams and majestic waterfalls, but who have never drunk of the Water of Life; who shepherd the sheep on a thousand grassy hillsides, but who do not know the Good Shepherd; who reap the golden grain from the fertile plains, but who are starving for the Bread of Life." The Ultimate Missionary
| |
The greatest mission ever accomplished was the mission of Jesus Christ to come and seek and save the lost.
On the famous day of July 20th, 1969, Apollo 1, under the leadership of Neil Armstrong accomplished the first successful mission where a human being actually stepped foot on our moon. This changed history as we know it. We can probably think of many other famous missions in the history of the world. D-Day-that massive mission of Allied troops which landed on the Normandy Coast in 1944 which signaled the eventual end of World War II. Or we think of the mission of Lewis and Clark who led the first expedition to the Pacific Coast in the early 1800's. Or that famous mission in 1492 when Columbus discovered a whole new world in the Western Hemisphere. Most of us resonate with a mission. We want to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We want the excitement and challenge of a mission. We like to watch our favorite sports team carry out a mission to win the championship. For 2011, you probably have a carefully defined mission for your life, church, and ministry. Click Here to Read More

"Missionaries like Terry and Dana are few and far between," says Kent Shirley
Terry and Dana Pickens moved to Dinosaur in early January 2011 from Blue Springs, Mississippi. The Pickens brought with them a 36 foot travel trailer, where they are living in a snow covered RV park in this small town of about 350 people. The night before they arrived the temperature in Dinosaur dropped to -20, the power went out and all of the plumbing in the RV park managers' trailer froze solid. The night I first visited the Pickens the temperature was -10 at 5 p.m. These Mississippi natives have never before experienced weather like this, yet they remain deeply surrendered to God's will for their lives as MSC missionaries on mission for Him in remote northwest Colorado.
