101 Milpas to Hot Springs
The latest info on Hwy 101 Operational Improvements

The operational improvements from Milpas to Hot Springs represent phase one of four in the Route 101 Corridor Projects that will widen the freeway with a new carpool lane from the City of Santa Barbara to Mussel Shoals. The operational improvements and new carpool lane are 101 in Motion project recommendations, which also include increased passenger rail between Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, expanded regional bus service, and carpooling and vanpooling incentives.

Roundabout_Montecito

The Milpas to Hot Springs project is fully funded with Measure D Regional funds and State Proposition 1B funds. It recently passed its first year of construction with completion scheduled for 2012. Included in the project are reconstruction of two major interchanges, six new or improved bridges, freeway widening, and improvements to local streets and pedestrian pathways. To date, construction crews have made good progress on a variety of project components, including:
  • Southbound On & Off Ramps at Milpas St.
  • Sycamore Creek Bridge (Stage 1)
  • Northbound Hwy 101 Merge Lane
  • Montecito Roundabout / Old Coast Hwy Sidewalks
  • Tennis Stadium Sound Wall
  • Cacique St. Under-crossing (Stage 1)
  • Milpas St. Bridges

Central Coast Train Day

On July 18, the Central Coast had its long awaited Train Day, postponed from its original date on National Train Day in May due to the Jesusita Fire. The activities in Santa Barbara started with a ride on a southbound Pacific Surfliner to Carpinteria, detraining, and reboarding the northbound Pacific Surfliner back to the Santa Barbara station. The train ride and station festivities included a press conference, food, and entertainment, including a magician and other activities for children. Elected officials and community members talked about the importance of regional transportation in addressing the congestion and environmental challenges faced here in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Photos are currently available at the Traffic Solutions page on Facebook.

Sante Ynez Valley Transit
Continuing to improve service as ridership increases

Beginning August 1, 2009, SYVT will service two additional new bus stops located at Valley Cottage Hospital and the Shopping Center on Alisal. "Improving SYVT service is something the City can do to make the lives of our community members just a little bit easier," commented Solvang City Manager Brad Vidro. "Our transit improvements make it easier for people to travel to work and school as well as help save on the expense of owning a personal vehicle."
