The operational improvements from Milpas to Hot Springs represent phase one of four in the Route 101 Corridor Projects that will widen the freeway with a new carpool lane from the City of Santa Barbara to Mussel Shoals. bus service, and carpooling and vanpooling incentives. The Milpas to Hot Springs project is fully funded with
Measure D Regional funds and State Proposition 1B funds. It recently
passed its first year of construction with completion scheduled for 2012. Included in the project are reconstruction of two major

Central Coast Train Day
On July 18, the Central Coast had its long awaited Train Day, postponed from its original date on National Train Day in May due to the Jesusita Fire. The activities in Santa Barbara started with a ride on a southbound
Pacific Surfliner to Carpinteria, detraining, and reboarding the
northbound Pacific Surfliner back to the Santa Barbara station. The train ride and station festivities included a press conference, food, and entertainment, including a magician and other activities for children. Elected officials and community members talked about the importance of regional
transportation in addressing the congestion and environmental challenges faced here in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Photos are currently available at the Traffic
Solutions page on Facebook. Supervisor Salud Carbajal and Santa Barbara City Mayor Marty Blum
