Carpoc is ALL for ALL the Pets

October 2011

What can we expect from AKC?

(Thank you, Sharyn Hutchens)

Virginia Whippet Breeder Sharyn Hutchens wrote a very detailed post about AKC. This is an important snippet from that great post

"puppiesonwallThe AKC represents (and is composed of) dog clubs. The dog clubs have members who are constituents of the local office holders. The AKC assists clubs in focusing on issues and may step in, but there are many hundreds of bills at the state level across the country and even more at the local level. They cannot address them all.

The state federations and local clubs have to pick up the ball and carry it forward and they can only do that through the active participation of their membership. In too many cases, the members either don't care or won't make the effort to let their legislators know of their position. More individual action, through local groups, is needed to have any real influence."

Petitions to the White House

How effective are they?

Most petitions are barely worth the cyberspace in which they are placed. However, in some cases, a huge outpouring on a particular subject will get the attentwild mare and foalion maybe not only of the White House, but of Congressional members' staff. They in turn advise their bosses that constituents are talking and writing a lot about a certain subject.  There have been several comments on the "lists" that petitions should be created for various worthy animal WELFARE causes. It will be interesting to see whether this comes to pass.

Here is one such petition that is worth the bother of registering and signing.

5,000 Signatures are needed by October 22, 2011 Total number of signatures on this petition was on October 16, 2011 was 3630.

Thoughts to Ponder
girlincage

WHY are we allowing less than 1% (vegans) or 3.5% (HSUS' inflated number of members) to dictate animal or animal use policies to 99% (or 96.5%) of the nation?   Why are we scurrying to react to their every announcement, every piece of legislation that this very tiny minority brings forth.

Available research puts the the percentage of Vegans at around 1% of the USA population.  (2008: 0.5% of the population)

U.S. Population on 1/18/2011 was 311,914,302

WHY, again, are we listening to this pseudo religious group that wants all Americans to subscribe to their religion?

Has this happened with any other religious group in the U.S. where a whole life style was being compelled to change to appease a minority of less than 1% or at most an exaggerated 3.5%?

Pondering...

Thoughts to Ponder
Pups 2011
PUPS 2011

PUPS - - FOREBODING NUMBERS - - DO THE MATH!!!!

WARNING: If the PUPS Bill - - which was drafted by the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) - - is enacted into Law, it may affect every single breeder in the U.S who breeds as few as one dog a year. That's right . . . one dog!

And the PUPS Bill could affect you in more than 20 different ways, and would crea

te

a "slippery slope" that would inevitably lead to other intended

or unintended consequences

that may affect all dog owners - - even those who do not intend to breed dogs.
