 WHAT'S HAPPENING?

 *     Blogs, Blogs and more Blogs, but who writes them?

  *    Why CaRPOC?

  *    Do we have Fun Places to Go? Ways to have Fun?

  *    Do We Tell The World What We Do Often Enough?

  *   "Pet Parent?" "Adopt?" "Animal Marriage?"

Can't we just call things what they are?

WE have more than just Legislation in our lives, really!

Blogs, Blogs and more Blogs, but who writes them?

Blog (web log), usually written and maintained by a person commenting, describing events, graphics or video. A Blogger blogs on his/her blog (adds content to a blog).   AS of 16 February 2011, there were 156 million public blogs in existence.  (from Wikipedia).

We love to read other people's opinions and many of the 156 million public blogs can tickle our imagination, stoke the fires of our outrage, double our frustration, or simply entertain us.  The concern in our minds is that very few have a genuine "name" behind the blog.  Who wrote it?  What are their credentials?  Why should we accept them as authorities, if they make that presumption when we don't know whom they are? A devoted fan may know who the author is of some of the blogs, but others, written under a pseudonym or under an organization's name appear to be, and often strive to be, anonymous.

Another great and very useful feature of most blogs is the links to other websites of interest.  While checking out a blog, also check some of the links.  It can tell you more about the blogger and open up some areas of interest.

Blogger, Blogger - - come out from behind your blog... and let us know who you are!  The following are some blogs that CaRPOC finds to be worth the reading time and there are many, many others.  The authors of the blogs may or may not be available.  Hopefully, more will stand proudly behind their blog with author's name.

Here are some blogs that you might want to scan:

Talented Animals Blog   -   The Goat Blog   -  KC Dog Blog  Yes Biscuit

  Rabbit Blog  Humane Watch

My Dog My Choice   -   National Animal Interest Alliance

Why  CaRPOC?

Why Indeed?  In California, there are multiple groups that have organized to withstand the Animal Rights incursions into our rights to own animals.  Just speaking of pet groups, there are groups formed by Dog Groups, Cat Groups, Horse Groups, Rabbit Groups, Herp Groups...  all with a legislation arm to inform and educate their members.  Therein lies a serious disconnect.

CaRPOC believes the road to overcoming the Extremists' power is to have a united front of all groups who communicate and have a single purpose. That purpose is retaking our state in Animal Welfare issues.  We, the Pet Owners, are the majority in California, the Animal Rights Groups are the minority...

We need to take back our state!

CaRPOC is each of you who cares about legislative issues in your squirres with flowerarea/neighborhood.

CaRPOC encourages all pet groups to form one true coalition, and then join with other groups, cattle raising, fur farming, chicken ranchers and support them.

CaRPOC believes in empowering others, not controlling them.  Ask for help, don't ask and then stand back for others to do your job.

Do we have Fun Places to Go?

Ways to have Fun?

  YEP!

horsemaypole

Check out here for all the fun things to do with our pets.  Notice that in keeping with our CaRPOC is ALL for ALL the Pets motto, that we have fun places to go to see rabbits, goats, snakes, dogs, cats, horses  and more.  Let's expand our horizons beyond the common, the usual, the typical, and go see a bird show!

CaRPOC lists events for all pets by scanning the websites and hoping that we find whatever's the best for you.  We are always looking for more, so please let us know. By going to events that showcase OUR animals, we can learn to help ourselves & our animals.

The Circus is coming to town!

Why is important to go to the circus?  Because by supporting events like the circus, the rodeo, even the steeplechases and regular horse races, we are supporting others in our mutual battle to show the public how these activities are integral parts of our lives.  Because by telling our friends about hunting or herding, we are spreading the word that our friends and neighbors enjoy a safe sport that not only brings no harm to the animals, but also stimulates their minds and uses the abilities for which they were bred.

Here is the Barnum and Bailey Circus schedule.

Support activities that integrate animals

Then people from those activities will reciprocate and support your activity.

"Pet Parent?" "Adopt?" "Animal Marriage?"

Can't we just call things what they are?

"Language is the supreme weapon in the battle to influence opinion"  Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Medicine Considered by David W. Ramey, Bernard E. Rollin.

The CaRPOC chat list has been compiling a list of words that have either been co-opted or used inappropriately to " to influence opinion."   CaRPOC encourages all animal owners to politely yet clearly correct these words or phrases when they encounter them.

Here are just a very few of the misused words:

girlincageCage -  used in a derogatory manner to describe every form of animal containment from a crate to a 12'x 20 enclosure to a fenced yard

Choke Collar - describing a slip collar whether made of metal or nylon

Adopt - a term inappropriately used when an animal is purchased or sold

Puppy  Mill - any breeder, whether deliberate or accidental

Animal Shelter - Animal Shelters began as a Pound, a place where "impounded" animals were kept.  This term keeps morphing into more socially acceptable, "gentler" terms

Animal Care or Animal Services - instead of Dog Catcher.

Other derogatory, insulting words are all over the media.

What words or phrases do YOU use that unconsciously or subconsciously supports the goals of those who would take away your animals?

.

Do We Tell The World

What We Do Often Enough?

.

Many legislative group lists every day provide links  to chronicle activities of those who do not want us to own animals.  There are hundreds, probably thousands, of links to newspaper articles, blogs, twitter tweets, eNewsletter comments and more.  This Internet spreads this media outpouring for days, and the discussions of "interesting" threads continue even longer.   It makes it appear that most of the nation supports the extremists - - not true.

happymothersday

Most people just want to be left alone and ignore those who are attempting to change our lifestyle and choices.  Sadly, less than 1% of the general population (3% according to HSUS) - - the extremists, the vocal and verbal, INSIST on not leaving people alone.  Our lives HAVE been impacted, and some choices HAVE already been removed.

Those of us who own and enjoy our animals, want to have our dietary choices left alone, want to wear the fabric, leather or pelt that we choose, are not expressing our choice preferences loud enough.

CaRPOC encourages every individual to make just one effort, write one letter, to a Public Opinion column, a Letter to the Editor, to one of his or her elected officials.  Then make one more call to a T.V. station, phone in one time to a call-in Show.  If everybody did that, then our majority would predominate in the media, rather than the Extremists minority.
