CaRPOC Newsletter
Every year at this time, CaRPOC reflects and then looks forward.   While California animal owners struggle daily for our rights to own and enjoy our animals, we take this opportunity to look towards the future.  We remember that our animals on the farm and in the home do much more than stand in the field or lie by the fire.  Our animals work in hospitals and nursing homes as therapy animals, Search and Rescue, protect our armed services, our airports, guide our blind, soothe our traumatized, and assist our disabled.

Yes, our animals are our vocation and our avocation.  Many of our animals are raised to bring joy to others as they leave their breeders and go to new owners' homes. Whether the animal is bird, guinea pig, or snake, the breeder has done their best to ensure a good pet for a loving owner.

At this Holiday Season, CaRPOC salutes ALL pets and all their breeders and owners and wishes them a peaceful and Happy New Year.
I'm Here For the Dog Shows!

Reports continue to come in regarding the success of this program over the past year.  At the January 2010 Palm Springs KC show, Marcie Dobkins introduced this innovative idea to make the public and the businesses aware what the economic impact of dog shows are on the surrounding communities. Here are a few of the stories.

"I just wanted to let you know how successful we were at passing out the "I'm Here For the Dog Shows" stickers at the Montgomery weekend shows in PA this past week. I had 25 restaurants in the area which offered discounts to anyone coming in wearing one of the stickers; people back there loved the idea; I had ring stewards and judges asking my people where they could get the stickers, etc, etc. We passed out hundreds, probably close to a thousand, of them! I had obtained permission from the show chairs for the Hatboro, Devon and Montgomery shows to put up a poster on an easel near the catalog table telling people to get their stickers from our club members and showing the restaurants that were giving discounts for wearing one. All in all, I think it was very successful -- but I have ideas how to improve for the next time."

"I had a number sparkling ornamentof clubs, including members of my club from various parts of the country, ask how they could get stickers for shows in their areas."

"I have been a sticker advocate; it was such a GREAT idea. My National Specialty is next week in Portland. I got some stickers from Marion, and prepared an instruction which I have attached, and a strip of stickers to be placed in the welcome bags given out to all who attend. With the left over roll I'll have my own political action crew going around stickering during the show hours."

"Our National Club is very hard to motivate to do much about this legislative battle; it is my way of sticking a needle in them to get started. Those stickers are such good conversation starters; even better than the usual, 'What kind of dog is THAT?' Appreciate your creativity in getting this started. Thanks."

"My team that worked the Montgomery weekend shows actually had a lot of fun doing it - gave them a good excuse to walk the show grounds... and I made sort of a contest among my Legislative Action Team -- the one who "stuck" the most people got recognized at our annual dinner and got a prize from me!! "

Los Angeles County Title 10 Drafts, Revisions  and Meetings

On September 29, 2009, Los Angeles County decided that they were going to alter zoning that would effectively ban people who have been living on their property, properly licensed and permitted, from continuing to engage in their livelihood of boarding, training and breeding dogs and cats. This would decrease their property values by potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars.  A public notice in a small local newspaper was the first those kennel owners/breeder heard of those plans.  Click here to go to the Reports of Public Meetings, Proposed Amendments from 3/3/2009 to the present.
